Everwild, the upcoming Rare game that's received next-to-no updates in the last several years, is still in active development, according to a reputable insider. With how silent Microsoft has been regarding Rare's new IP, some have started believing that Everwild might've been quietly canceled in favor of dedicating more development resources to Sea of Thieves and other potential projects at the company, but fortunately, it looks like that isn't the case.

Everwild was unveiled back in November 2019 during the annual X0 trade show in London, U.K. that year. The first trailer Microsoft revealed at the now-defunct event was a brief, but stunning glimpse of Everwild that provided little information on what exactly the game was. Fast-forward a year later, and Rare's new IP made its second appearance at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase with a similarly gorgeous, albeit vague, teaser trailer. Since then, Everwild has gone completely dark, with the majority of the news surrounding the game being leaks and rumors regarding its current status. This has prompted some fans to worry that Rare may shelve Everwild and never show it off ever again, but one Microsoft leaker has shared some promising news to dissuade these concerns.

Everwild May Not Release in 2024, But That's a Good Thing

Rare's open-world, Xbox-exclusive Everwild should not rush to release in 2024 due to the year already having a fairly loaded plate.

In the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, the well-known insider Jez Corden made some comments regarding the state of Everwild's development around the 2:26:00 mark of the video, claiming that he's heard Rare's next game is "still coming." Corden elaborated on this, stating that "if anyone out there is [thinking] because Everwild's silent, the game's canceled, no, Everwild's not canceled. It's still trucking along." This update is rather reassuring to those worried about Rare's new IP becoming another addition to the ever-growing graveyard of canceled Xbox games. That being said, Corden was unable to provide extra information regarding the type of game Everwild is, stating that all he knows is that it's "some kind of online [multiplayer] game."

Given that it's been nearly four years since the last trailer for Everwild was released, many Xbox fans are hoping to catch a glimpse of Rare's next game during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, set to take place on Sunday, June 9. Speaking of the possibility of Everwild making an appearance at the upcoming event, Jez Corden said that he doesn't know "if Everwild [will] be at the show," suggesting that it might be "too early" for the game to get a re-reveal.

Xbox Fans Will Hopefully Not Have to Wait Too Long To See Everwild Again

Considering that this upcoming action-adventure game from Rare has been in conceptualization stages since 2014, Corden claiming that it could be "too early" to see Everwild again is a bit surprising. Then again, reports from fellow insiders like Jeff Grubb and Andy Robinson have claimed that Everwild was completely rebooted a few years ago, so Jez Corden's statement makes more sense in this context. With how long fans have waited to get an update on this big Xbox game, though, Microsoft will hopefully decide to show off Everwild again sooner rather than later.
