HBO's Euphoria is known for its dark, moody storylines. One person hopes the show's next season lightens up a bit. Storm Reid, who plays Gia Bennett in the series, has said she hopes season 3 is "a little less heartbreaking."
Euphoria has yet to film its third season following the conclusion of season 2 in February of last year. That means fans have had plenty of time to speculate, and so have the show's stars. Zendaya and other cast members recently discussed their hopes for Euphoria season 3, and it seemed like most of the cast wanted their characters to go through an easier time (season 2 was a very dark spot for most, if not all, of the characters).
In an interview with ScreenRant, Reid discussed her hopes for Euphoria season 3. "Gia, I hope that you get to smile," she said, addressing the answer to her character. "I hope you get to laugh. I hope you get some ice cream or something! No, I hope we get to see Gia [smile] more, but my overarching hope for season 3 is just more levity, more joy, more grace. I think we have covered the entire spectrum of emotions in Euphoria over the last two seasons, so hopefully season 3 is a little less heartbreaking."
Reid's character, Gia, ran the gamut in Euphoria season 2. The character faced her sister Rue's (Zendaya) relapse and found that her anger at her sister had begun to boil over. The series has implied that Gia is severely struggling, but Rue's issues keep her from finding the help that she needs, a fact that Ali (Colman Domingo) pointed out. Though the two share a close bond, Gia found herself at odds with Rue for most of season 2.
Zendaya's role in Euphoria has been award-winning, but Reid's heartbreak as Gia is an underrated performance. The two actors share an intense chemistry and consider each other sisters in real life, and their interactions help sell Rue's descent. Gia is one of the people Rue cares about the most, and if the two get a happy season together, they are sure to mine the material for everything it's worth.
Hopefully, the cast does get their lighter season. While Euphoria is dark and sometimes draining, it is based on creator Sam Levinson's struggles with addiction. Levinson has openly spoken about Rue being based on his own experiences, so there is hope for the characters. So long as Euphoria doesn't spring another brawl on them, Gia and Rue could start to heal their fractured relationship.
