Euphoria Season 2 introduced a slew of new characters and plotlines into the already tense teen drama. While Season 2 saw some amazing drama unfold, all these new developments opened entirely new cans of worms. Some storylines were wrapped up, but showrunner Sam Levinson wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t leave at least a few loose ends for Euphoria Season 3.

Countless questions remain unanswered — especially with the season’s cliffhanger ending for Fezco, Ashtray, and Faye. Here are the biggest unanswered questions that Euphoria’s third season needs to answer.

Warning: This article contains spoilers.

8 What Will Happen to Elliot?

Elliot (Dominic Fike) speaks to Rue (Zendaya) at school during Euphoria Season 2.

Played by Dominic Fike (the chart-topping singer-songwriter of “3 Nights”), Elliot became best friends with Rue and Jules during Season 2, even having a brief fling with Jules while Rue wasn’t around. She and Elliot fueled each other’s drug habits, which had disastrous consequences for Rue, who eventually ran away during her opioid withdrawal.

While Elliot seems to have accepted Rue’s apology during the Season 2 finale, his last spoken line in the show states that he and Rue aren’t good for each other. And during Lexi’s play, Rue and Elliot are sat far away from each other, seemingly living their own lives. Elliot's role in Euphoria Season 3 remains up in the air, but Fike has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Elliot. It’s entirely possible that he and Jules may continue their friendship, especially now that she and Rue appear to have gone their separate ways.

7 What Will Happen to Faye?

Last we saw, Faye was lying prone on the ground of Fez’s apartment as a SWAT team burst through the door during a narcotics bust. Although she appears to have escaped the siege relatively unharmed, the future isn’t looking bright for Faye. Being an accessory to the violent clash during the Season 2 finale can’t be good for her criminal record; even if she wasn’t the mastermind, it’s hard to imagine a future for Faye that doesn’t involve some jail time.

Depending on how far into the future Season 3 takes place, it might be possible to get a glimpse of Faye again, at least for a little while. In any case, it would be a shame to lose such a nuanced character so soon after her first appearance.

6 What Happens To Maddy’s & Cassie’s Friendship?

It’s no surprise that Maddy and Cassie’s friendship is on thin ice. In fact, one could even say it’s drowning. After all, it’s not every day you find out your best friend has been sleeping with your ex behind your back.

After a hilarious but dramatic fight scene during Lexi’s play, Cassie reveals that her relationship with Nate is over. Having dumped her right before the play, Nate appears — on the surface — to be heading out of Cassie’s life. But Maddy has a cryptic message for Cassie before Season 2 comes to a close: “Don’t worry. This is just the beginning.” This is likely a reference to Nate’s penchant for abuse, as he had recently threatened Maddy at gunpoint. While their friendship seems to be in tatters, it’s possible that Maddy and Cassie could yet work together to fight back against their abusive ex.

5 Will Laurie Come After Rue?

Laurie the drug dealer from Euphoria Season 2

While Laurie — the soft-spoken yet brutal drug lord of East Highland — seems to have dropped off the radar during Euphoria Season 2’s final episodes, she played a major role earlier on. After fronting Rue thousands of dollars’ worth of drugs to sell, Laurie drugged and kidnapped Rue with the intention of trafficking her.

While Rue managed to escape, it seems unlikely that someone as cruel and calculating as Laurie would let Rue off the hook for effectively stealing thousands of dollars from her. An organized crime boss like herself would likely have few issues getting vengeance on someone like Rue, but it’s not clear if Laurie will return to the show — not least of all because her actor, Martha Kelly, has yet to be confirmed as part of Season 3’s cast.

4 Will Maddy Get Back At Nate?

Nate and Maddy hold hands at school, from Euphoria

This isn’t an average teenage heartbreak story. Nate took things to a whole new level in Season 2 when he held Maddy at gunpoint, demanding that she return a DVD whose contents incriminate Cal (Nate’s dad) of sex with a minor. Nate has shown that his volatile tendencies have the potential to seriously hurt people, not just emotionally, but physically too.

But during the season finale, when Maddy tells Cassie that breaking up with Nate “is just the beginning” for her former friend’s troubles, it sounds as if she’s got unfinished business with Nate. Maddy is definitely not one to go quietly, so fans should watch out for any revenge she may try to exact on Nate. As mentioned above, she might even enlist Cassie's help.

3 Does Fez Survive?

Fez (Angus Cloud) talks to Lexi at a party in Euphoria Season 2

During the Season 2 finale, Ashtray is killed off-screen during a police raid, but not before he accidentally shoots his adopted brother Fez. It certainly looks like Fez could have sustained a fatal injury, not least because of how bloody and weak he gets by the end of the scene.

But Euphoria is no stranger to life-threatening injuries being shrugged off in the next episode. Season 2’s first episode saw Fez beat Nate unconscious, to the point where Nate’s bloodied face was totally unrecognizable — and yet Nate showed up a couple episodes later, unfazed. It’s possible something similar may happen here, although it’s unlikely audiences will see Fez anywhere that isn’t behind bars.

However, fans probably shouldn’t hold their breath on this one, as it really seems like the show’s writer, Sam Levinson, has set Fez and Lexi’s story arc up to be a tragedy. With all the dramatic irony that viewers experienced in the season’s last two episodes, it seems unlikely Fez and Lexi will get the life they both dreamed of.

2 Does Rue Relapse In Season 3?

Rue talks to Ali in a diner during a Euphoria special

Season 2 of Euphoria ends with Zendaya narrating Rue’s thoughts as she walks out of Lexi’s play. During that monologue, viewers learn that Rue stayed clean for the rest of the school year, but this leaves open the potential for her to relapse in the following year. She even says, “I’m not sure if this feeling will last forever,” suggesting something could go awry.

It’s hard to imagine Rue staying clean for long, considering just how high she was in the show’s first two seasons. Rue also says herself while she’s going through withdrawal that only a small minority of drug addicts can overcome opioid addiction, so the odds are, unfortunately, stacked against her.

1 Will Rue & Jules Ever Be Friends Again?

Rue and Jules looking sad, split image from Euphoria

Rue said some terrible things to Jules while she was withdrawing from opioids, and although Jules told her ex that she misses her, it seems like Rue is moving on with her life. Rue’s monologue that closes out Season 2 states that Jules was Rue’s first love, implying that their romantic relationship is definitely over. But it remains to be seen whether their friendship can survive, despite all the drama.

Jules certainly doesn’t seem to be over Rue, and Rue herself doesn’t seem to harbor any negativity toward her ex. After all, the forehead kiss Rue gives Jules doesn’t exactly scream “I hate you.” It definitely seems to be a sign that Rue is moving on romantically, but there might still be hope for their friendship in Season 3.
