The next few months will be critical for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as highly-anticipated films such as Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home will set up the multiverse for Phase 4. The former title, in particular, has been receiving a burst of attention lately after fans noticed a possible Avengers: Age of Ultron Easter egg in the latest trailer. Should their observations be true, it could be that one of the next big threats in the MCU has been hiding in plain sight this entire time.

According to a theory on Reddit, the arrival of the Deviants to the MCU may have been in the works for quite some time now. In 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, there was a scene where Chris Hemsworth's Thor received a vision involving "a whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life." The vision depicted some sort of asteroid approaching Earth, and fans were quick to notice that it looked very similar to a shot in the latest Eternals trailer.

While Thor's vision is widely believed to have hinted at the Infinity Stones, Ultron, and Thanos, some believe that it was referencing the arrival of the Deviants to Earth as well. If that's true, then Marvel Studios may have already warned viewers of the Deviants as early as six years ago. Of course, this could also just be a coincidence, but Marvel Studios is known for setting up major connections well beforehand, so it's entirely possible that the theory bears some merit.

In the comic books, Deviants are a monstrous race of near-immortal beings who the Eternals have vowed to protect the universe from. Their MCU debut will surely shake up the multiverse, as they have powers akin to those of the almighty Celestials. It will be up to Ikaris (Richard Madden) and his team of god-like allies to stop the Deviants before they wreak havoc on Earth.

Joining Ikaris in the cosmic fight are a number of other Eternals, include Ajak (Salma Hayek), Sersi (Gemma Chan), Thena (Angelina Jolie), Gilgamesh (Don Lee), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff). They will come together in an epic story that will reportedly run for two hours and 37 minutes. Helmed by Chloe Zhao, the Oscar-winning director of Nomadland, Eternals is expected to be one of Marvel Studios' biggest films of the year.

Eternals is set for an exclusive theatrical release on November 5, 2021.
