Escape From Tarkov is a massively multiplayer title that relies on players thinking strategically in the hope to survive against other players who are also hunting for salvage and other resources before leaving the military war zone of Tarkov.

With the goal of the first-person shooter to be escaping Tarkov players will need to be well-equipped when exploring if they hope to keep all the amazing items they have found during their travels. A decent pistol is sure to keep many at bay and that is why these are by far the best pistols players can equip. However, it should also be mentioned that the ammo equipped is way more important than the gun itself.

6 Stechkin APS

Starting off strong a great pistol that many players may fall in love with using is the Stechkin APS. Unlike many other pistols on the list, this weapon comes with two modes for players to utilize. The first is the usual single firing mode which can help with accurate shots from a moderate distance as this pistol can be useful from as far as 50 meters. The second is a full auto mode which allows players to let it rip into an enemy while sacrificing a larger amount of rounds used.

Therefore, this pistol can make those intense gunfights in Escape From Tarkov a lot more manageable when in a tight spot. However, this gun can only be unlocked by getting to the second loyalty level with Prapor.

5 Glock 18C

The Glock 18C is the only other gun on the list to contain two firing modes that are identical to the Stechkin APS. This means that it also can change between a single firing mode and a full auto mode if players have no choice but to resort to using their pistol in a gunfight. However, this pistol rates higher than the Stechkin for one crucial reason and that is due to the increased rate of fire of the Glock compared to the Stechkin.

When firing in full auto mode players will reach a rate of fire of 1,200 rounds per minute as well as having a better recoil which leads to an even better accuracy with this weapon. Therefore, players may still need to be close while using it but are less likely to miss shots.

4 FN Five-seveN MK2

Matching the FN Five-seveN with the right ammo can make for a deadly combination in the player's hands. It may not seem as fancy as the other pistols mentioned, especially due to only being single-fire, but that doesn't stop it from being a decent pick for players. The FN Five-seveN is incredibly efficient in combat as, although it has poor accuracy compared to other pistols available, it makes up for this in the minimal recoil it possesses.

With a good shot while using decent bullets the quick reload and minimal recoil can make this pistol a great help against armored foes. Unfortunately, this pistol isn't easy for players to get their hands on as they need to get the Peacekeeper to loyalty level three in order to finally trade for it.

3 Serdyukov SR-1MP Gyurza

While pistols aren't weapons players are going to want to directly rely upon in combat, they should still be able to hold their own when quickly swapping weapons when the other runs out of ammo. Therefore, a secondary pistol should always have a quick rate of fire and decent accuracy. The Serdyukov SR-1MP, commonly referred to as the shrimp gun, is definitely something players should consider.

As a semi-auto pistol, the Gyurza has one of the highest rates of fire of the pistols as well as having a decent amount of damage to go with it as long as it's equipped with the right ammo. However, it does require a player to be up close if they wish for it to be the most effective, though this is also when players are most likely to be using it anyway when being rushed by an opponent.

2 Beretta M9A3

Sometimes the best pistol is one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to purchase and that is exactly what the Beretta stands for. Out of all the 9x19 pistols available for players to purchase, the Beretta is not only the cheapest option for players but also one of the best pistols for them to have equipped. Although its stats may seem quite standard it can hit marks easily due to its increased accuracy in comparison to others and therefore doesn't rely on the player being close to their target.

The standard Beretta M9A3 can be purchased from the Peacekeeper as early as the first level of loyalty with him. Therefore, as long as a player has 124 dollars to spare they'll be able to get their hands on this pistol.

1 SIG P226R

When comparing all the available pistols in Escape From Tarkov, and with no other choice of weapon, by far the most favored pistol out of all of them that players should consider equipping is the SIG P226R. Essentially, this pistol does everything the Beretta does but to an even better degree, so taking this into combat once a player is able to afford it is a must.

Although it is unlocked at the first level of loyalty with the Peacekeeper this gun cannot be bought for cash and instead must be traded by giving the Peacekeeper four Damascus knives. It may be a challenge to the player to get this melee weapon though if lucky, a player will want to purchase this pistol straight away.

Escape from Tarkov is currently available on PC.
