October is the month most famously known for trick-or-treating, dressing up in scary costumes, and watching horror movies. Just like the candy that's handed out to kids during this time of year, gamers can get plenty of freebies from the Epic Games Store every week. These free video games switch out on every Thursday at 10 AM CT. The storefront is also getting into the season as the Epic Games Store titles for the week of Halloween are already known in advance and are set to be something perfectly suited for the famous holiday.

Currently, fans can grab The Evil Within and Eternal Threads for free with their Epic Games Store account, and this will remain until the games are switched out next Thursday. It's highly reccommended that those who can take advantage of the promotion do as Eternal Threads is the last general game for the next two weeks, and The Evil Within makes a great companion with The Evil Within 2 and Tandem: A Tale of Shadows.

Epic Games Store Free Game Tandem: A Tale of Shadows Explained

Tandem: A Tale of Shadows - Emma pushing a trolley

Out of the two offerings, Tandem: A Tale of Shadows is mostly fitting in terms of its gothic, creepy aesthetic more than being purposefully scary, but its narrative does have its darker moments. Playing as both little girl Emma and haunted teddy bear Fenton, fans need to solve two different kinds of puzzles simultaneously in order to free the duo from cryptic dimensional dangers and solve the mystery of what happened to the magician Thomas Kane.

Inspired by the works of Jules Verne and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with a perfect hint of Nightmare Before Christmas' own Tim Burton, Tandem invites players into a detailed and mystical world that's both beautiful and dangerous. While some may consider the maps of the game visibly cluttered, this puzzle game stands out on its own stylistic merits alongside the risks it takes, and currently has a very positive standing on Steam.

Epic Games Store Free Game The Evil Within 2 Explained

Sebastian Looking At Creepy Paintings

The Evil Within 2 once again sees players control Sebastian Castellanos as his daughter Lily has gone missing, and the detective has to face more horrific threats in order to get her back. Spearheaded by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, The Evil Within 2 is one of the highest-rated survival horror games from 2017, and is being offered to Epic Games Store users at no cost at the perfect time of the year to experience it.

While some players may not want to play a sequel without experiencing the first game, luckily the deal is way sweeter if players take advantage of the current offerings before October 26, as The Evil Within is currently available before The Evil Within 2 takes its place. The Epic Games Store doesn't do double-dip offerings very often, so players who are interested in the survival horror games should definitely take advantage.

As both of The Evil Within games feature very dark and grim storylines, players should certainly exercise caution when it comes to picking them up. If themes such as child death and suicide may bother them, then they may find Tandem: A Tale of Shadows more their style, but it also has a fair deal of dark twists of its own. Suffice to say, those who may be unsettled easily may want to find different games on the Epic Games Store to try out next week if they don't take up Eternal Threads to bide their time until October 26 comes, and the next Epic Games Store free offerings are announced.
