The Epic Games Store has made quite a name for itself as a digital PC gaming storefront. Even in the face of Steam's famous sales, one big way that Epic Games has managed to keep a consistent user base is through its free game offerings every week. Every Thursday, players have a chance to get something new to add to their libraries to keep at to extra cost, provided they have an account with Epic Games.

Indeed, at every Thursday at 10 AM CT, the offerings are changed out and replaced with games that were made known last week, while two new games for the coming week are announced. This means that Epic Games Store users can currently claim Tandem: A Tale of Shadows and The Evil Within 2, but next week, F.I.S.T: Forged In Shadow Torch and Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion will be available for free once that date and hour roll around.

Epic Games Store Free Game Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion Explained

If players hadn't heard of Turnip Boy before, then the name of Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is bound to turn a few heads. True to its name, as soon as players sit down and get ready to play as the titular character, the first action players do is rip up a tax document. This in turn is considered tax evasion by Mayor Onion, which results in players needing to do errands throughout Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion's playtime in order to repay the tax debt that the sentient vegetable now owns.

As players hack-and-slash their way through the town, seeing Mayor Onion's tasks through and defeating enemies along the way, the already humorous premise just grows more and more ridiculous as time goes on. Since 2021, Turnip Boy's shenanigans has made so many players laugh, it has even spawned an in-development sequel known as Turnip Boy Robs a Bank. While Turnip Boy may not be the most grounded of video games at the end, it comes from an idea that any tax-paying citizen can relate to, and serves as a great whimsical game that's worth picking up at no charge.

Epic Games Store Free Game F.I.S.T: Forged in Shadow Torch Explained

Exploring the world in F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch

Players will see themselves as a rabbit named Rayton in F.I.S.T: Forged in Shadow Torch who aims to save his friend Urso from the oppressive captors taking over Torch City. To see how this story unfolds, players need to make their way through the dieselpunk world presented to them in tried and true Metroidvania fashion, with plenty of upgrades for Rayton's mechanical fist to find and even more secrets to uncover. If players manage to snag F.I.S.T as part of the Epic Games Store's offering, they'll have 12 hours of the adventure to get through.

While its possible that fans hadn't heard of F.I.S.T: Forged in Shadow Torch already, it doesn't take much to see how well received the game is, as even on Epic Games' own storefront it's praised for being "extremely fun," featuring amazing storytelling and characters, and is currently listed as "highly reccommended" right on its own review section before players get to pick up the game for free. As a result, Metroidvania fans will likely not want to skip out on getting F.I.S.T at no extra cost, as it's likely to be a hidden diamond in the rough in their Epic Games library.

Both of November's first free games invite players into a fantastical world, but it's up to them if they want their experience to be whimsical or perhaps more intriguing. Compared to the previous offerings, these two games feel like a breath of fresh air after the set of free games to celebrate Halloween that Epic Games gave out beforehand. While there's certainly some variety between F.I.S.T and Turnip Boy, those who aren't interested might find something more their style next week on the Epic Games Store.
