The Epic Games Store gives away new free games every Thursday at 10am CT, while simultaneously revealing to users what they can expect from the following week's free game offerings. Thursday, April 7 is no exception to that rule, as the Epic Games Store has made two more games free for users to claim while confirming the free games coming on Thursday, April 14.

First off, Epic Games Store users have a week to claim two games for their digital libraries. Starting today and until Thursday, April 14 at 10:00am CT, Epic Games Store users can snag critically-acclaimed roguelike game Rogue Legacy for their collection. Rogue Legacy being free on the Epic Games Store coincides with the confirmation that Rogue Legacy 2's release date is April 28, which may not be a coincidence.

The other free game Epic Games Store users can claim today is The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. A first-person mystery game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter earned mostly positive reviews, so fans of the genre should definitely check it out while they can.

Epic Games Store Free Games April 2022

  • Rogue Legacy (until April 14)
  • The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (until April 14)
  • Insurmountable (April 14 - April 21)
  • XCOM 2 (April 14 - April 21)

While it had only been giving away one free game per week for a while there, it seems as though the Epic Games Store is switching back to giving away two free games. Starting next Thursday, April 14, Epic Games Store users can claim Insurmountable and XCOM 2. Insurmountable is a roguelike permadeath game about climbing mountains. It was well-received by critics when it first launched in 2021, but it has flown under the radar a bit.

XCOM 2, meanwhile, is a critically-acclaimed turn-based strategy game where players fight hostile alien threats. Developed by Firaxis Games, XCOM 2 is the latest main series installment in the long-running strategy game franchise, and even though it's six years old at this point, it's still a decent "get" for the Epic Games Store and one of the more high profile free games that's been given away all year.

Once April 14 rolls around, Epic Games Store users can snag Insurmountable and XCOM 2 while learning about what they can expect from the April 21 free game offerings. While they wait, Epic Games Store users can grab Rogue Legacy and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter for free.
