The Rake is one of the basic survival tools in the game. While it isn't as essential as a felling axe, pickaxe, or hammer, it's a must-have for players who want to build the base of their dreams. Here's how you can make and upgrade a Rake in Enshrouded.

Enshrouded: How to Make a Rake

Crafting recipe for the basic rake in Enshrouded

The crafting recipe for a basic Rake is unlocked very early on once you reach Level 2 and unlock the Blacksmith. To get it, you need to craft a Workbench and collect Wood Logs, Stone, and Strings. Interact with your Workbench after gathering these materials, and you should be able to see the Rake recipe under the Survival category next to the Glider, Grappling Hook, and Storage options.

As of writing, there's an issue where players are unable to unlock the basic Rake recipe in their private worlds. If you're experiencing this, do the following:

  1. Open the Journal.
  2. Select the Workshops tab.
  3. Select Workbench.
  4. Scroll down until you see the Rake recipe.
  5. Pin the recipe.

Doing this should make the Rake appear on all of your Workbenches. However, if you still aren't able to see the recipe in the Journal, it may be best to join a random public world and check the Workbenches there if the Rake recipe is available. Check the existing Workbenches in that world, or make your own. If the Rake is still not there, try a different server.

To upgrade your Rake, you'll need to unlock additional crafting recipes for the Blacksmith. Once you craft a Forge, you'll be able to upgrade your basic Rake to a Scrappy Rake, which has a higher max durability stat since it's made with Metal Scraps. Better Rakes will be available through the Blacksmith as well, so make sure to pay him a visit once you hit a tech milestone.

How to Use Rakes

Rakes are made for adjusting the terrain within your base's range of influence. To use it, equip it on your hotbar, then point it at the ground. You'll see a ring that indicates the area that's about to be affected. Controls on how to use the Rake, including how to change its angle of effect, are visible on your screen.

You can use Rakes to fill the gaps between the ground and your buildings, saving you the hassle of manually adding terrain blocks via the Construction Hammer. Additionally, you can extend dirt and stone roads with a Rake. To do this, aim first at the road you want to extend, hold LMB/RT/R2, and then walk towards the direction you want to extend it to. This costs no resources, only stamina and item durability.

Take note that the elevation of the ground you're raking depends on where the targeting ring is located, not where your character is standing. For the best results, aim the Rake at your feet to make sure the ground is leveled at your current elevation.
