Enshrouded features the usual array of open-world survival elements, from the myriad of crafting materials to explorable POIs, roaming monsters, and base building. The latter is especially important in this game, as there are tangible benefits to making a cozy home here compared to other games.

Enshrouded Releases Major New Update

The latest update for Enshrouded introduces a plethora of new features, quality of life improvements, and a variety of bug fixes.

As you explore the world, you'll eventually encounter even more resources that can be turned into useful items by the many craftspeople of Enshrouded. Hardwood is one such resource that's found relatively early in the game, though its source and actual use may be obscure to some players. Here's where to find some, and what to use them for.

Where To Find Hardwood in Enshrouded

A line of Hardwood trees in Enshrouded

Instead of cutting down regular trees found in the majority of the open world, players will need to go to the Revelwoods and specifically cut down the large, moss-covered trees that are abundant in that region. They're pretty hard to miss, and there's an entire forest full of them. Hardwood is one of the most abundant resources in the game, and you'll never find yourself struggling to get some as long as you have a fast travel point somewhere in the Revelwoods.

Luckily, any kind of Felling Axe will work when cutting down Hardwood trees. Even the first axe you craft in Enshrouded is enough, though you'll want a better one if you want to fell trees more quickly. There's also a passive skill that increases the damage you deal against wood with Felling Axes, so consider spending an extra point or two there if you really want to get Hardwood fast.

The one thing players do need to be aware of is the Shroud in the Revelwoods. You may need to upgrade your Flame level before you can enter this region, as the Shroud here is usually lethal to low-level players.

What Is Hardwood Used For in Enshrouded?

Early on, Hardwood has very few uses. Regular wood is more valuable since it can be used to make building blocks and crafting stations. However, once you rescue the Carpenter in Enshrouded, you'll gain the ability to make furniture. As it happens, many pieces of furniture require Hardwood. If you have any in your storage containers, now would be the best time to take them out.

Furniture does have a purpose in Enshrouded. Apart from making your base look prettier, some also provide additional comfort levels, granting you a longer-lasting Well-Rested buff. If you rest in a well-decorated house, you'll be able to explore for longer without having to worry about your stamina as much.
