Having to trudge through the ruins of a torn-down kingdom isn't for the faint of heart, playing as an unimposing character doesn't help things either. Luckily, collecting spirit skills along the way is the equalizer, evening out the playing field and making even the biggest boss a viable option.

Traveling through dungeons and underwater traps will prepare players for the hard battles ahead, leading them to the bosses that will upgrade their skill tree. Quietus Of The Knights gives players the opportunity to load up the arsenal of attacks before heading into battle, offering up some of the most impressive skills in the 2D genre.

7 Headless Defender

An early game grab, the Headless Defender skill is a great addition to the green player's arsenal. It introduces the counter-attack tactics, summoning a great knight to block any oncoming attacks with his shield. If the enemy attacks in the short time the skill is active then they'll be punished with a swing of the sword.

Players will have to make their way through half of Cliffside Hamlet before facing the mini-boss and grabbing the skill, leading them to the bottom left exit of the house. A hidden room is tucked away, daring players to open the door and face the giant enemy.

6 Fungal Sorcerer

A skill from a boss fight that shouldn't cause the player to break a sweat, Fungal Sorcerer is a special supplement to some of the heavy damage attacks. Casting a poisonous mist across the battlefield, the enemy won't be able to defend against the health drain that follows.

Take the path up through the platforms from the Dryad Lake respite, meeting multiple sorcerers to practice on along the way. From the respite, head towards the right exit and jump up, coming face to face with the teleporting mini-boss.

5 Dark Executioner

Taking enemies that are usually out of reach or defended and making quick work of them, Dark Executioner is a must-have when players can't find a way to deal damage. Appearing behind enemies, this skill removes all the protective layers and leaves even shielded groups wide open for a swing of the axe.

Fast traveling to the Execution Grounds, players will have to backtrack a room to the left before heading to the top right corner. Be warned, he has executioner mobs surrounding him that will have to be taken care of.

4 Verboten Champion

While the move might not seem the most useful, this skill lets players reach much higher places with the power of an uppercut. This will give players access to a much wider variety of items and hidden areas as they make their way through the game. Combined with other mobility skills, Verboten Champion shines brightly.

Starting in Subterranean Lab B1, players go down and to the right. Entering the area, players will see a mob lining the left side of the room, guarding the locked door that opens up the boss fight.

3 Ulv, The Mad Knight

Simple but effective, Ulv will blast enemies with claws that do serious damage. For all the special effects and complicated tactics, players will always need a giant offensive blow that runs through the enemy's defense. Choosing the timing on this skill will be key because an early trigger will leave the player wide open.

Located at the very end of the Twin Spires level beside the Mourning Hall respite, there are plenty of opportunities to add to the arsenal before you meet the hardest challenge yet. This level has a treasure trove of goodies hidden throughout, requiring the player to put those utility skills to the test, it will take evey tool to overcome this boss.

2 Knight Captain Julius

Once players fight the man himself it's easy to understand why this attack is so good, sending out a combination of sword jabs with his extended weapon. An attack that covers a lot of distance and can be extended by moving toward the enemy mid animation.

Starting at the Bastion respite in the Ruined Keep, players will have to grapple to the upper left section. The path will lead up and to the left through large chambers and using lifts before reaching the King's Chambers, as soon as players hit the far left side it's time to make the warpath directly right.

1 Hidden Test Subject

Another block skill that unleashes a counter-attack, requiring some slick timing but punishing the enemy for trying. It also provides a layer of defense by holding up an urn to block any incoming strikes, giving the player a double-edged sword that comes in handy when the opponent is making predictable moves.

Heading right of the Dryad Lake, players will soo stumble upon an underwater room filled with mermen and mines. From here players pass through one room to the right before entering the chamber, in the top right doorway of the room lies the Secret Experiment and the skill.
