The buildup of Marvel Studios' Phase Four started a long time ago, around the time when Emilia Clarke was still busy with Game of Thrones. However, now that she’s set to be part of Secret Invasion it’s up to fans to guess who she’ll be playing.
After all, Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor have been slowly introducing new types of otherworldly threats for planet Earth. So, add in the huge pandora’s box that was Loki, and the MCU has a lot of ground to cover. Part of that includes next year’s Secret Invasion, which sees Clarke join Samuel L. Jackson to unravel the mystery of just what Nick Fury has been up to since Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Far From Home.
With all that to keep in mind, Clarke could play anyone from Spider-Woman to more obscure Marvel characters bound to appear in Secret Invasion. Of course, the easier answer would be that Queen Daenerys will simply take up the role of one of the Skrulls featured in the show. That’s probably just what Hungarian artist M.design34 (@m.design34) had in mind when prepping up this poster that could easily pass as promo material for the series.
The overall look is quite impressive considering the MCU has mostly kept the Skrulls as teasers for what’s to come after their first appearance in Captain Marvel, their decoy services in Far From Home, and WandaVision. It bears saying that this piece of artwork looks way more similar to Soren or other female Skrulls than past attempts at giving Clarke the alien treatment for Secret Invasion.
One thing to keep in mind is whether Marvel Studios will want to hide Clarke's face in Secret Invasion, considering she’s the biggest name in the series after Samuel L. Jackson and returning Skrull leader Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn. In any case, Secret Invasion is set to be the main event for any storylines stemming from the eponymous comic book series, one that is likely to leave its fair share of consequences for 2023’s The Marvels.
While Clarke remains tight-lipped about Secret Invasion, fan speculation will continue for an actor whose credits now include the biggest media franchises in the world, Marvel and Star Wars, albeit her inclusion in the latter coming in the much-maligned Solo. Hopefully, her time in the MCU will go smoother so she can fulfill her wish to stay on board for longer.
Secret Invasion is expected to be released on Disney Plus in 2022.
