Emilia Clarke recently discussed the possibility of reprising her Game of Thrones role of Daenerys Targaryen in a potential spin-off, giving a definitive response that may leave fans disappointed.

Ever since it was revealed that Kit Harington would be reprising his role as Jon Snow in an upcoming Game of Thrones sequel series, fans have been dying to know: Will any of his former co-stars be joining him? Now, Clarke has given an official answer to that question, at least when it comes to her character.

In a recent interview with BBC, Clarke was asked whether her Game of Thrones character, Daenerys Targaryen, would be making a grand return to the hit HBO franchise. After mentioning that Harington informed her about the project and confirming that the sequel series is indeed in development, she gave an answer that left no room for debate or misinterpretation. "No, I think I'm done," she said with a laugh. Clarke was firm in her response, making it clear that she has no desire to come back as the Mother of Dragons.

While Clarke didn't elaborate further, fans think her lack of interest to return could be due to a couple of specific reasons. For one, playing Daenerys is stressful since there is an overwhelming amount of pressure placed on Clarke to get her story right. Clarke has admitted before that she was disappointed with what the writers did with Daenerys in the finale, and that she particularly struggled with her character being killed off the show. Similar to her co-star Maisie Williams, who recently admitted that she resented Arya Stark as she grew up, Clarke really disliked how Daenerys turned out, especially since she (and millions of viewers) were rooting for her.

That said, she has since made peace with her character, and it seems that she is ready to leave her behind. Though she will not be returning to Westeros, she still has some big projects lined up, including a prominent role in Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion series for Disney Plus. While not much has been revealed regarding her involvement in the MCU franchise, fans can rest assured that Clarke won't be disappearing from their television screens any time soon.

For now, those who crave some more Game of Thrones action can keep an eye out for the House of the Dragon prequel, which is set to release on HBO Max on August 21, 2022. The story will focus on the Targaryen dynasty and their political conquests, 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones is now available on HBO Max.
