Elliot Page teased a first-look image of his character, Viktor Hargreeves, in the upcoming third season of the beloved TheUmbrella Academy series. However, Page didn’t just stop there, as he also took the moment to let fans know that his character will also be coming out as Transgender in season three.

Page came out himself as Transgender in December of 2020. At the time, he was playing cis-gender woman Vanya Hargreeves for TheUmbrella Academy's first two seasons. When Page did come out, Variety had reported that Netflix and TheUmbrella Academy team were both very supportive. Netflix immediately made sure to update all of Page's previous credits to reflect his proper pronouns and the actor's transition. The Umbrella Academy also ensured fans that this would in no way affect Page's presence on the show. In fact, they have apparently been working behind the scenes to showcase much needed trans-representation, which is something Page has been adamant about, knowing the kind of influence that comes with being an LGBTQ+ icon.

Page announced the news with a new of photo his Umbrella Academy character on Instagram. Recently, after he transitioned, Page told Vanity Fair, “For the first time in, I don’t even know how long, [I am] really just being able to sit by myself, be on my own, be productive, and be creative. It’s such an oversimplification to say it this way, but I’m comfortable. I feel a significant difference in my ability to just exist—and not even just day to day, but moment to moment.” He added, “Now I’m finally getting myself back to feeling like who I am, and it’s so beautiful and extraordinary.” The massive effect and impact transitioning has had on his life is something that he wants other people to see is okay - not just okay, it’s rather beautiful. Sources have told Variety that before Page's transition, the show had no official plans of changing Page's character’s gender in the series.

Now, however, the adopted child with superpowers will officially be known as Viktor from here on out. This is just one of the many new developments fans have to look forward to for the third season of The Umbrella Academy. Page is joined by returning Umbrella Academy cast members Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min. The original cast will also be mixed in with newcomers Cazzie David and Euphoria's Javon Walton. Netflix's tagline for the third season reads, “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”

This all seems to indicate that the upcoming third season of The Umbrella Academy is going to be an important one. Page's highly anticipated memoir, Pageboy, is set to “delve into Page's relationship with his body and his experiences as being one of the most famous trans people in the world.” Pageboy also recounts instances of abuse and homophobia within Hollywood that he dealt with throughout his career.

The Umbrella Academy is set to be available for streaming through Netflix on June 22, 2022.
