There is a huge variety of sets in Elder Scrolls Online, with more added with each Chapter and DLC every few months. Some of Elder Scrolls Online's most popular sets actually come from the base game, though, such as the Magicka and Caster-oriented Mother's Sorrow set.

The Mother's Sorrow set is a go-to for a number of builds, especially for Sorcerers and other class' Magicka-based builds. While its two-item bonus is pretty mediocre, the power of this set comes from its later three bonuses, each of which can hugely influence a player's damage output.

Mother's Sorrow Armor Set Effects

Elder Scrolls Online Armor of Mothers Sorrow in Deshaan
  • Two Items: Adds 1096 Max Magicka
  • Three Items: Increases Critical Hit Chance by 657
  • Four Items: Increases Critical Hit Chance by 657
  • Full Set Bonus: Increases Critical Hit Chance by 657

With two items of the Mother's Sorrow set equipped, players gain a paltry 1096 Max Magicka, the equivalent of three or four levels worth of Attribute Points. However, with three, four, and five items equipped the Mother's Sorrow set increases a player's Critical Hit Chance by 657 apiece, for a total bonus of 1,962 Critical Hit Chance.

There are no pre-requisites for the full set bonus, making the Mother's Sorrow set one of the most versatile in the base game. While other sets might be more useful for certain builds, the Mother's Sorrow set is easy to acquire and serves as a good entry point for further gear progression.

How To Get The Mother's Sorrow Set

The Mother's Sorrow set is found only in the overworld of Deshaan, where the Ebonheart Pact capital of Mournhold lies. Pieces to the set can therefore be found in a number of places throughout the zone, including Delve/World/Public bosses, quests, and Dark Anchors throughout Deshaan.

The pieces that drop to this set (and indeed all Elder Scrolls Online sets) scale with the player's Level and Champion Points up to 160. Be sure to level your character up to this point to maximize the bonuses from this set, as lower-level versions just don't cut it in the endgame.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
