A Skyrim player has shown off an impressive mod that makes the game look and play like an earlier entry into the Elder Scrolls series, Daggerfall. While most Skyrim graphics mods make the game look better, this particular creation goes in the opposite direction.

Since its release in 2011, the Skyrim modding community has proven itself as arguably the most dedicated modding community for any title out there. From smaller tweaks to total conversion Skyrim mods that make wholesale changes to the game, there's something for everyone when it comes to this particular element of Bethesda's classic RPG. However, while most mods look to bring Skyrim into the modern era, clearly some gamers are looking to the past for modding inspiration.

A newly released mod for Skyrim adds the fishing village of Easthaven from Icewind Dale and so much more to Bethesda's popular RPG.

The clip was posted to Reddit by user hozzam11, which shows off a few different gameplay scenarios from Skyrim. There's archery, magic, and melee combat, as well as general trading, dialogue, and class creation. All of it is presented in a pixelated style, with a retro UI that evokes memories of classic RPGs such as Daggerfall. There's even a clip in which the low-resolution main character is sent soaring into the air by a giant, just like the classic Skyrim glitch. All of it is shown against the backdrop of Skyrim's iconic theme tune.

Gamers in the thread loved the creation, pointing out how similar many of the Skyrim mechanics are derived from the earlier iterations of the series. However, one user did point out that Skyrim was actually released closer to the 90s than today, a fact that is sure to make many gamers feel old. Despite the game's age, there's no doubt that it still holds up to this day. It remains one of the great RPGs, a benchmark that even Bethesda in the modern day is struggling to live up to.

With Skyrim's modding community still thriving, it might be easy to assume that gamers are satisfied with the current offering. However, fans continue to clamor for The Elder Scrolls 6, which was first announced back in 2018. With Bethesda choosing to prioritize Starfield first, the wait goes on for an Elder Scrolls sequel, reaching 13 years this year. Starfield's mixed reception among players has, for many, made the wait even tougher to take, although hopefully, enough work has been done that Elder Scrolls 6 will be ready for the developer to show off soon enough.
