Highlights

  • Official court documents reveal that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be exclusive to PC and Xbox, with no PlayStation version planned at this time.
  • The game is not expected to release until 2026 or later, and updates on its development will be scarce for the foreseeable future.
  • While there is still a chance that the platforms could change, making the game an exclusive could potentially boost Xbox console sales, as seen with Starfield.

According to official court documents, The Elder Scrolls 6 will release exclusively on PC and Xbox, with no PlayStation version of the game. Ever since Microsoft acquired Bethesda, a big concern from PlayStation fans has been the potential for The Elder Scrolls 6 to be PC and Xbox exclusive. Official responses to those concerns have danced around the issue, but it does seem that's the plan, at least for now.

The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced at E3 2018. At the time, all that was revealed about the game was a logo and the fact that it was in the works. Fast-forward five years later, and The Elder Scrolls 6 is still years away from release. Bethesda has just launched its massively ambitious open world sci-fi RPG Starfield and plans on supporting that game with updates and DLC for quite some time to come, so fans shouldn't expect to see anything substantial about Elder Scrolls 6 for the foreseeable future.

While updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 will likely be few and far between for the next few years, Microsoft's responses in the FTC vs. Microsoft case have revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently planned for PC and Xbox and won't release until 2026 or later. This was shared on Twitter by Stephen Totilo. The response included a chart of Bethesda-published games, pointing out how Ghostwire: Tokyo and Deathloop both released on PlayStation, while Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online have continued to receive support on PlayStation even after the acquisition went through. The chart also includes Starfield, Redfall, and The Elder Scrolls 6, all listed as PC and Xbox exclusives.

This is the most damning evidence yet that The Elder Scrolls 6 will not release on PlayStation consoles, but that doesn't mean PlayStation gamers are completely without hope. As pointed out by Totilo, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said that Elder Scrolls 6's platforms have yet to be decided. Considering the established base of Elder Scrolls fans on PlayStation, it seems like Elder Scrolls 6 ditching the platform would be leaving a lot of money on the table, but then again, securing it as an exclusive could very well drive sales for Xbox consoles and Game Pass.

In fact, Starfield has caused a spike in Xbox console sales, and it wasn't even an established IP like The Elder Scrolls. If Starfield was capable of pushing Xbox consoles, surely The Elder Scrolls 6 could have an even bigger impact. But with The Elder Scrolls 6 release date so far away from the time of this writing, it remains to be seen if it will even release on current-generation consoles or if it will be targeting next-generation platforms instead.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development for PC and Xbox.
