The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is one of Bethesda's most popular games, and the developer clearly knows it based on the number of re-releases it has gotten since 2011. With news on The Elder Scrolls 6 years away, fans will have to linger in Skyrim for some time to come, so it's a good thing some of them are continuing to develop impressive mods.

A mod creator named Mihail uploaded the file for a new Skyrim creature based on Dungeons and Dragons' famous Gelatinous Cube to the Nexus Mod forum Wednesday. True to its name, this monster is an immense sea-green collection of mindless ooze that exists solely to engulf matter to be dissolved by its acidic slime — and thanks to Mihail, it could potentially be found roaming Skyrim's dungeons.

Mihail uploaded a video alongside his mod, which includes two variants of the cube with goopy sound effects, new conditions it can inflict, and special loot like Cube Slime. It's an intimidatingly large presence to run into when translated from its Dungeons and Dragons roots, full of bones from various victims, and it's not easy to kill with a blade without suffering contact damage. However, it is apparently effective to blow up the Gelatinous Cube from the inside.

Of all the monsters found in Dungeons and Dragons' huge compendium of beasts, the Gelatinous Cube is likely one of its most recognizable to the general populace. The monster has appeared in various other pieces of media, including a sizable recurring role as a fantasy creature in Pixar's Onward.

This Gelatinous Cube mod is just one of nearly 300 files uploaded to Nexus Mods by Mihail, and is a part of their long-running "Monsters and Animals" series for Skyrim. Modifying the game is undoubtedly one of the reasons The Elder Scrolls 5 has lasted as long as it has in the public consciousness, as everything from Thomas the Tank Engine to YouTuber Shirley Curry, the "Skyrim Grandma," have gotten mods over the years.

Dungeons and Dragons is not the only game which has gotten to cross over with Skyrim in the world of modifications. One mod released earlier this year adds the combat from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to Skyrim for example, though it's currently not clear whether that style would assist in a battle with a Gelatinous Cube.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
