An Elden Ring fan was sufficiently spurred for the first time in a while to craft a costume for Halloween, ending up with a compelling rendition of White Mask Varre. A conniving servant to one dubbed the Bloody Lord, Varre has inspired many a cultural phenomenon to have originated from Elden Ring, perhaps even the most viral.

White Mask Varre is an intriguing denizen of the Lands Between, not least because he is likely the first NPC that players will meet, excluding Melina and Torrent who are part of a prior cutscene. Upon opening up the exit to Elden Ring's tutorial dungeon, Varre awaits the Tarnished nearby, patiently stood beside The First Step Site of Grace. And within only a few lines of dialogue, Varre births one of the most memorable terms from the open-world RPG, as he claims "you are maidenless." It effectively means players are unable to make use of the "strength of runes," also known as leveling, as well as being without an invitation to the Roundtable Hold, the location which acts as Elden Ring's hub. Varre first comes off as helpful, suggesting that players should follow the golden rays of Grace and make their way to Castle Stormveil, but as his quest progresses, the masked mystery turns out to have more sinister intentions.

In an image uploaded to Reddit by u/someguyinmissouri1, the costume can be seen in all its blood-stained glory. Draped in bloodied sheets, adorning a simple white mask, and equipped with a bouquet of roses, the outfit captures Varre's disconcerting atmosphere. Inevitably, the comments were packed with jokes that they should go around calling everyone maidenless, and were also very complimentary of the effort made.

Varre is the character who introduces players to Elden Ring's PvP, as completing his quest requires invading the worlds of other Tarnished. Many end up replicating his hidden countenance because of the White Mask he wears, which provides increased attack power around blood loss when equipped with the head piece. Varre's Bouquet is another item useful for those seeking to make opponents bleed, but is seldom seen in PvP given the superiority of other weapons that inflict the status effect.

Elden Ring PvP has seen a variety of improvements with recent updates, which introduced buffs across the board for skills, sorceries, and incantations. The time could not be better to delve back into the community of Elden Ring, as Halloween has inspired costumes of characters from across the title, and there are sure to be those in-game making the most of the spooky season.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
