The Alpha release of the Convergence Mod for Elden Ring is finally here, bringing with it a vastly different Lands Between for players to take on. The world might seem similar to the vanilla version of Elden Ring visually, but the numerous changes the Convergence Mod makes can make even the most experienced Elden Ring players feel lost.

The developers of the Convergence Mod have information on the changes, and where to find important items, available through the Convergence Mod discord and a public Google Doc. But players who want to jump straight into the Convergence Mod can refer to this basic guide to make the most of their first steps in this expanded Lands Between.

Choose A Class With A Start Location You Like

There are a total of 27 new classes in the Convergence Mod Elden Ring players can try out. Each class comes with a unique armor set, weapons, Spells, and starting location. Some Starting Locations are much less manageable than others, though – for example, the Volcanist and Servant of Rot both start in Caelid, while the Stormcaller and Vanguard start practically at the regular opening of the game in Limgrave.

Take some time to experiment with each class before committing to one, because though each starting location can be discovered by every character, this initial launch pad can determine the direction players go. There are a ton of changes in the Convergence Mod, and no two playthroughs will be the same thanks to this new variety. Plus, the way that enemies scale to players' level has been changed across the Lands Between, giving even more freedom over where to go first in the Convergence Mod.

Hunt Down Class-Defining Gear & Spells

Though most Melee classes in the Convergence Mod only use weapons and armor, the real meat of this mod comes in the more than 100 new Spells added to the game. Sorceries, Incantations, and other new abilities are aplenty in this mod, and each Spellcasting-oriented class can hunt down Runes to unlock chunks of these new Spells at once.

For example, the Godskin Celebrant begins just outside the Deathtouched Catacombs, a dungeon that has a Black Knife Assassin at the end. The other enemies throughout have been replaced with more Godskin-themed foes, and the reward for beating the Black Knife Assassin is four new Black Flame spells to add to the Spellbook.

Be sure to reference the introductory Notes that can be found near every class' starting point in the Convergence Mod. These typically highlight other Runes, and therefore Spells, that can be unlocked within a given Spell category, as well as their locations.

Gather Enchanted Remnants For Talisman and Physick Crafting

In the Convergence Mod Talismans and Crystal Tears for use in the Flask of Wondrous Physick cannot be found out in the world. Instead, there's a new crafting system that lets players craft whichever Talismand and Crystal Tears they want, at the cost of an Enchanted Remnant.

These Remnants can be found anywhere a Talisman normally would be found in Elden Ring. In Summonwater Village, for example, there's normally a Green Turtle Talisman, which improves Stamina regen. Instead, using the Remnant found in the same chest, players can visit a Site of Grace and make any Talisman they need.

Before heading to any major bosses, consider hunting down a few of these Remnants throughout the early Elden Ring areas. Because players start with all four Talisman slots available, players who take advantage of the Remnant crafting system will feel much less friction progressing through the challenges, and revamped enemies, of the Convergence Mod.

Fight The First Keystone Boss: Godrick, Rennala, or Ancestor Spirit

After figuring out a Starting Class, exploring the re-vamped areas of Elden Ring, and collecting some Spells, Talismans, and Physick effects, it's time to take on a major boss. Unlike the base game, Elden Ring's Convergence Mod lets players go almost anywhere at any time. If one wanted to, they could head straight for Morgott in Leyndell.

To get to the Forge of Giants in the Convergence Mod, players need to collect five Keystones. These Keystones can be earned from five groups of bosses. In each group, only one boss actually needs to be defeated to drop a Keystone.

The first group is made up of Godrick, Rennala, and the Ancestor Spirit. By defeating any one of these bosses (in Stormveil Castle, Raya Lucaria, and the Siofra River, respectively), players will have taken their first step into the rest of the Convergence Mod.

Elden Ring's Convergence Mod is available on PC only.
