Throughout the Soulsborne genre, fans have always shown love to classic melee weapons like greatswords and katanas, but ranged weapons like bows and greatbows haven’t been much of a favorite. This is mostly because of their weird aiming style and the lack of power. While aiming a bow is still tricky in Elden Ring, FromSoft has done a great job of boosting their strength by adding bows with high attack ratings and including talismans tailored for buffing their effectiveness.

Out of all bows, the Golem Greatbow stands as the most powerful bow in Elden Ring. This weapon is described as a greatbow crafted by a lost civilization that has now gone to ruin. It is wielded by Guardian Golems found in many different places throughout the Lands Between. If you have fought a Guardian Golem wielding a greatbow, you would have surely noticed how bolts fired from these bows deal knockback damage, making them powerful armaments to have in PvP fights. Those hoping to share in this kind of power can follow this guide to get a Golem Greatbow of their very own.

How To Get The Golem Greatbow In Elden Ring

Elden Ring - Guardian Golem with Greatbow

In Elden Ring, many weapons can be collected as a guaranteed item drop lying on the ground or by defeating a boss to claim its weapon. As for the Golem Greatbow, there is no guaranteed way to get the weapon. Players hoping to get their hands on the Golem Greatbow will have to farm Guardian Golems who are wielding a bow. These golems have a 10% chance to drop the weapon they are wielding.

Luckily, Guardian Golems are not hard to farm. They are quite big and strong, but with a few heavy hits on their legs, Guardian Golems will come falling down. Once a Golem is down, hit the core in the chest to deal critical damage. Players can use heavy weapons like Colossal swords, Great Hammers, or any weapon with high poise damage to break the Golem’s stance and defeat them easily.

Guardian Golems are rare enemies and don’t spawn in many places. However, the places where they spawn are usually close to sites of grace. Players also won’t have to travel a long distance to respawn Guardian Golems.

Best Locations To Farm The Golem Greatbow

Elden Ring - Guardian Golems near Dectus Lift

The best spot to efficiently farm the Golem Greatbow is located just outside the Grand Lift of Dectus in the Altus Plateau. After you have collected both halves of the Dectus medallion, you can take the Grand Lift of Dectus to enter the Altus Plateau.

Upon leaving the Dectus Lift, players can spot two Guardian Golems. One of them wields the Golem Halberd, and the other uses the Golem Greatbow. Going west from here, you will find the Altus Plateau site of grace.

Elden Ring - Golem Greatbow description

You can beat the Golem with the Greatbow and fast travel back to the grace site to respawn the enemy. The process can then be repeated until you get the Golem Greatbow.

You can improve the drop rate of the Golem Greatbow by equipping the Silver Scarab talisman. It increases your character’s Discovery by 75, which boosts the drop rate to 17.5%. You can also consume a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot for an extra 50 Discovery. If you have invested points into Arcane, you will have more Discovery. Each level you add to Arcane will increase your discovery by one point.
