Elden Ring's release is less than two weeks away and From Software fans are doing everything they can to avoid spoilers. It has been a long wait for the latest RPG from the developer of the Dark Souls trilogy and no fan wants to have the experience tainted with just days before it arrives. Some fans, however, could be taking that idea too seriously. A surprisingly popular petition is gaining track with From Software fans asking the Elden Ring community to shift focus to BugSnax for this final week before launch.

The petition was started on the Elden Ring subreddit and has climbed to the top of the community's front page. The title of the post captures the idea, saying that it's a petition "to change this sub to Bugsnax only to avoid spoilers for the last week." The post's body is simply the box art for BugSnax. It's unclear how serious the Elden Ring fan is that posted the petition.

The idea is simple. Community members should only post about BugSnax for the remaining time between now and Elden Ring's launch. That way, the sub doesn't have to worry about potential spoilers, even accidentally. It's audacious, of course, because the Elden Ring subreddit is one of the most active and passionate groups of players looking forward to the game online. But that's also why it's difficult not to take it somewhat seriously. Some fans may genuinely want this.

While the post is popular and some replies do want BugSnax to take over until launch, there's no indication that it will actually happen. The subreddit is still full of Elden Ring memes, discussion, and analysis. The mods aren't changing the subreddit's theme to BugSnax. Really, the only BugSnax-related content is the petition itself. It's impressive that there are no BugSnax posts, because the community loves memes as much as it loves Elden Ring.

Other examples of extreme reactions within the Elden Ring subreddit community include one fan who is terrified that he might die before the game releases, another saying goodbye to their cat because they'll no longer be able to pet them after Elden Ring arrives, another fan who just broke their wrist wishing everyone else a safe final week, and many much similar examples. These fans take Elden Ring very seriously.

What's especially exciting about having a community like From Software does is that, regardless of whether Elden Ring is great or not, the fanbase will enjoy it to its fullest. They'll explore every last nook and cranny, they'll criticize what's deserving of criticism, and then they'll look forward to the next From Software game. It's a great example of how enjoying games goes beyond the game itself. All they need to do is survive another week without seeing any spoilers.

Elden Ring releases on February 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
