In Elden Ring, Spirit Ashes are helpful specters that you can summon to assist against challenging enemies. These spirits help by diverting enemy attention, giving you time to heal and re-engage in battle. In the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the game introduces 25 new Spirit Ashes, some of which are hidden in secret locations, making their discovery a true challenge.

One of these new Spirit Ashes, the Black Knight Commander Andreas, is located in a hidden chamber of the Fog Rift Catacombs. For Elden Ring players struggling to find this Spirit Ash summon, this guide details how to do so.

Elden Ring - Shadow Of The Erdtree - Fog Rift Catacomb Path

You can reach the Fog Rift Catacombs by riding northwest of the Castle Front Site of Grace. After you enter the dungeon, proceed to discover the Site of Grace. Then, head north from the Site of Grace and turn west when you reach the end of the passageway.

The western passageway opens to an open area, but beware of the spike trap falling from the ceiling. Set foot into the open area, and immediately return to the western passageway to safely activate the trap.

As the spike trap travels back up, sprint across the large room, and use the gap on the southern side of the room to evade the falling trap. Again, as the spike trap travels back up, run for the western exit. Continue following the passageway, and head all the way to the northern end.

Turn south to find an incomplete set of stairs. Approach the very end of the stairs to activate another ceiling trap. As soon as the trap crashes to the ground, immediately jump on top of it and sprint to the southern door.

Now, continue following the dungeon’s natural direction, until you come across two Black Knight enemies. Deal with them, and then approach the southeastern edge of the platform to activate another ceiling trap.

Black Knight Commander Andreas Ashes Overview

Elden Ring - Shadow Of The Erdtree - Black Knight Commander Andreas Ashes Stats

Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirit of Andreas, Knight-Commander of the Black Knights. The Black Knights were the primary force of Messmer's army. Their first leader was Andreas, a man endowed with great strength and command over the powers of the Crucible, and whose spirit in these ashes dwells. Though he remained a devout follower of Messmer after his flight from the Erdtree, he would rebel after learning of his liege's serpentine nature. His righteous stand was rewarded with imprisonment in an underground tomb.

FP Cost

108

The Black Knight Commander Andreas Ashes is one of the most expensive summonses to cast, consuming 118 FP. However, for spending 111 FP, you get a really powerful summon that has a large health pool and can potentially last until the end of most boss fights.

Since you can find this Spirit Ash quite early, it’s worth acquiring and upgrading it as soon as possible. This summon can serve as your support tank, and given that the Spirit Ash also has a shield to protect itself, it further enhances its longevity.
