Weapon upgrades are king in Elden Ring. Players tackling FromSoftware’s first open-world adventure will have a hard time without the right gear to fight off the hordes of vicious enemies. Among the strongest weapons in Elden Ring are the boss weapons, usually retrieved by trading in Remembrance at the Roundtable Hold; however, these weapons cannot be upgraded with ordinary Smithing Stones, but instead require Somber Smithing Stones.

Rarer than their ordinary counterparts, finding Somber Smithing Stones can be a challenge in Elden Ring. The best way to unlock unlimited Somber Smithing Stones for purchase is by finding Somberstone Miner's Bell Bearing’s across the map to give to the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. This guide will help players find Somberstone Miner's Bell Bearing (5) to help upgrade the Tarnished’s rarer weapons to +9.

Where to Find the Bell Bearing

In order to find Somberstone Miner's Bell Bearing (5), the player must first journey to Crumbling Farum Azula, a Legacy Dungeon only reachable by teleportation.

This location is accessed via the Forge of the Giants Site of Grace after players make their way through the Mountaintop of the Giants and kill the Fire Giant. After talking to Melina at the Site of Grace, she will teleport the player to the Dungeon.

Crumbling Farum Azula should only be tackled by Tarnished above level 100, ensuring not to go over certain level caps, with weapons upgraded as high as possible.

To reach the Bell Bearing, players must head to a chapel just before the Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace, towards the end of the Legacy Dungeon. From the Dragon Temple Rooftop Site of Grace, tumble off to the left and head right, past some Bladed Talon Eagles, before dropping onto a walkway below flanked by dead cypress trees.

Continue forward past some more Eagles and head down some stairs onto a slanted rooftop, from which players can jump to a ruined platform to their left. Walk along this platform, avoiding even more Eagles, and jump up to a barren, ruin-strewn forest above where players can find a dragon.

From here, head up to the right and through an archway illuminated by braziers, following the path around to the right. Staying on this path, players will come to another archway on their right with cliffs leading downwards towards the Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace; instead of taking this path, continue forward to a brazier-lit cliff edge.

Bridging a gap are some columned ruins that the player must carefully navigate to cross. Once on the other side, walk ahead and around to the right into a chapel-like building containing three enemies.

After dealing with them, the Tarnished may find Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing (5) resting on a corpse at the base of the altar in one of the many hidden locations in Elden Ring.

After grabbing the Bell Bearing, travel to the Roundtable Hold and follow the left passage to the Twin Maiden Husks, who sell items to the player.
