Smithing Stones are extremely important materials in Elden Ring, allowing players to upgrade their weapons and shields. In the earliest stages of the game, fans will need to use Smithing Stone [1] and Smithing Stone [2] to power up their gear, and it is possible to purchase an unlimited number of those upgrade materials. This guide is here to explain exactly how that is done, and it will help players who are in need of Smithing Stone [1] and [2] in Elden Ring.

This guide will primarily focus on turning Smithing Stone [1] and Smithing Stone [2] into items that can be bought. Once it is possible to buy the stones, players can use this guide to farming Runes in Elden Ring to fund their purchases.

Elden Ring: How to Buy Smithing Stones 1 & 2

The first step toward unlocking the ability to buy Smithing Stones 1 and 2 is obtaining the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing [1] , a Key Item that is earned by defeating a Crystalian at the end of the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel. For the uninitiated, that location is situated in the northeast quadrant of Liurnia, just north of the Church of Vows, and it is actually possible to reach it before completing Elden Ring's Stormveil Castle. Here are details (and a video) covering that early route to the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel, though the map and images that are above may be more useful to players who are already in the area:

  • Start at the Stromhill Shack Site of Grace, just east of the Stormveil Castle Main Gate.
  • Travel northward to reach a broken bridge upon which the Finger Crone resides.
  • Use the path that begins at the end of the bridge to follow the cliffs and skip Stormveil Castle.
  • Head west and descend into the watery area of Liurnia.
  • Ride northward through the water, attempting to avoid as many enemies as possible, to reach the entrance to the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel.

Players must now work through the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel and do battle with the Crystalian at the bottom. While the path to this boss is quite straightforward, the following video may be helpful to fans who are lost in the tunnel:

With respect to the battle with the Crystalian, fans should start the fight by working to break the boss's stance and lower its defenses. While there are many ways to pursue this endeavor, jump attacks are great options for quickly breaking stance in Elden Ring, and players are advised to repeatedly perform those strikes until the Crystalian is vulnerable. Fans can then simply attack the boss until it dies and awards the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing 1.

Blunt weapons are highly effective against Crystalians, and players who are struggling with the boss at the end the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel may want to equip one.

With the Bell Bearing in hand, players should make their way to Elden Ring's Roundtable Hold and offer the item to the Twin Maiden Husk. For for full clarity, that NPC can be reached by passing through the door northeast of the Table of Lost Grace, and they will sell Smithing Stone [1] and [2] as soon as they have accepted the offering. Fans will then be free to buy as many of those Bolstering Materials as they need, provided that they have Runes to put toward their purchases.
