Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree extends one of the base game's most exciting features and gives players a brand-new realm of secrets to uncover. Hidden within Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree's Land of Shadow are various optional dungeons and bosses for players to tackle if they feel like testing their skills and earning new loot. However, in their quest to uncover all Shadow of the Erdtree has to offer, players may have ended up missing one clever reference to Marvel's iconic Wolverine placed nearly in plain sight.

It might still seem odd to many players to find a Marvel reference in Elden Ring of all places, but the pop-culture presence of Wolverine has drastically grown in recent years to the point where cameos in non-Marvel media aren't that out of left field. Wolverine and the X-Men in general are a hot topic right now following the massive success of the X-Men '97 Disney Plus series and the hype surrounding the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine game from Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac. Now, FromSoftware seems to have made its own minor reference to the mutant with Shadow of the Erdtree's Logur the Beast Claw.

Shadow of the Erdtree's Logur the Beast Claw Seems Like a Wolverine Reference

Logur's Appearance in Shadow of the Erdtree

It's likely that many Shadow of the Erdtree players have stumbled upon Logur the Beast Claw while wandering the DLC's starting area of Gravesite Plain. Just to the southeast of the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace, players will find a dense forest where Logur the Beast Claw wanders among the trees and other critters that can be found there. Although he is not treated as a typical Elden Ring boss nor NPC invader, he shares qualities of both as an aggressive human character that will attack the player on sight with quick, powerful slashes that can be fatal after only a few hits.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree players may be tempted to avoid this fight initially since Logur can shred even the most seasoned player's defenses if they haven't collected enough Scadutree Fragments to bolster their damage reduction. However, it's worth taking on Logur eventually since defeating this enemy rewards players with the Beast Claw (Weapon) , one of Shadow of the Erdtree's newly-added weapon types. Along with obtaining this powerful new weapon, it's worth any Marvel fan's time to battle Logur to experience what appears to be Elden Ring's take on Wolverine and his iconic Adamantium claws.

How Logur Mirrors Marvel's Wolverine

The clearest hint that Logur the Beast Claw is a reference to Wolverine is in his use of the Beast Claw weapon as his main way of attacking the player. While Logur isn't the only Elden Ring enemy to use Claw weapons, the use of these weapons combined with his name makes it obvious that this character is unique from other Claw users. Logur's name is suspiciously close to Wolverine's name, Logan, only deviating by a couple of letters. However, there is still more evidence that subtly confirms that Logur the Beast Claw is intended to be a Wolverine stand-in.

Wolverine slender artwork in comics

The key to understanding this Wolverine reference requires players to look at the location in which Logur is found. Having this enemy wander the forests to the southeast of the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace nearly naked seems to align with one of Wolverine's iconic comic moments where he has just fled the Weapon X facility after having his skeleton infused with Adamantium and spends his time wandering the Canadian wilderness without even clothes to keep him warm. The combination of these design elements for Logur the Beast Claw lines up with several notable elements of Wolverine that Marvel fans will likely pick up on but may go undetected by unfamiliar players.
