There are tons of new items to discover in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, giving the veterans of the game a chance to experience the feeling of stepping into a new adventure for the first time once more.

Like new weapons and armor, SOTE also brings with it completely new ashes that can be summoned in select areas. One of these is the Messmer Soldier Ashes. Here is where to find it.

One soldier wields an axe, while the other wields a spear. Both of them are adept at charge attacks. These soldiers belonged to the ignoble penal battalion, and were buried hidden from the Scadutree's sight.

The Messmer Soldier Ashes is a new Spirit Ash in Shadow of the Erdtree that summons two Messmer Soldiers, copies of the axe wielding enemies you encounter in the campsites in front of Castle Ensis. Of the two, one wields a spear and shield and the other carries an axe and shield. The axe wielder is the more useful one as he has access to an AoE stomp attack that deals high poise damage. Additionally, the soldiers are extremely aggressive and can reliably take away aggro from the player in boss fights. However, unlike Lhutel the Headless Ashes , they can be easily killed if left to their own devices.

The Messmer Soldier Ashes can be upgraded to +10 with Grave Glovewort. To summon the Messmer Soldier Spirits, Elden Ring players must have 72 FP available.

Where To Find Messmer Soldier Ashes Location

Messmer Soldier Ashes can be obtained inside a hidden area in the Fort of Reprimand in Scadu Altus. There are two ways to reach the Fort.

The main way is by first defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, to unlock Scadu Altus and then taking the road southeast to reach the Fort. This route takes you past the Ghostflame Dragon, protecting the mountain pass.
The other route is by using the sealed spiritspring in the Gravesite Plains, southeast of Castle Ensis. Instead of taking the main road from the Castle Front Site of Grace, head into the woods south of it until you can pass below the road and into the poison field. Hug the south wall and you'll reach the sealed spiritspring. Break the seal and use Torrent to jump directly to the Fort of Reprimand's back section. Jump down past the Omenkiller to reach the main area.

From the main door leading into the Fort, turn left and you'll see a gap in a section of the wall. There is an open chute here leading down to a new section. Jump down and pick up the items on the corpses and defeat the Omenkiller . Follow the path until you reach a door leading to the outside. The item on the white gravestones is the Messmer Soldier Ashes. Pick them up and take the ladder to the right to return to the Fort.
