  • Elden Ring veterans are urging new Shadow of the Erdtree players to level up their Scadutree Blessings before summoning them for multiplayer.
  • Furled Fingers are always relegated to the Host of Fingers' SB level, meaning underleveled hosts are setting their teams up to fail.

Some Elden Ring veterans have started pleading with Shadow of the Erdtree newcomers to level up their Scadutree Blessing levels as much as possible before trying to use multiplayer summons. Their requests appear to be a result of frustrations stemming from some hosts essentially setting them up to fail at tackling many of the new Elden Ring bosses.

July 1 marked the ten-day anniversary of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree's critically acclaimed debut. Although the expansion has been widely celebrated as making a great game even better, it also incurred some criticism for its steep difficulty, especially when it comes to its dozens of bosses. As was the case with the base game, many people have been overcoming these DLC challenges by summoning cooperators with their Furlcalling Finger Remedy reserves.

A tragicomic video from a hapless Elden Ring player shows how one Shadow of the Erdtree strategy doesn't work as well as the DLC trailer implied.

Shadow of the Erdtree's Scadutree Blessings Are Even More Important in Elden Ring Multiplayer

But some of the more experienced players who have been putting down their summoning signs appear to be growing frustrated with their attempts to help others beat Shadow of the Erdtree bosses. A lot of their annoyances stem from the fact that Hosts of Fingers are often initiating multiplayer sessions at extremely low Scadutree Blessing levels. Although leveling up SBs is the best way to deal with Shadow of the Erdtree's difficulty in any scenario, it is especially important in multiplayer sessions because cooperators will always be given the same SB level as the Host of Fingers.

This sentiment was recently articulated by Reddit user Derpmaster88, who suggested that they are growing tired of being one-shot by the final Shadow of the Erdtree boss because the host is trying to tackle that fight at a single-digit Scadutree Blessing level, thus needlessly making an already-excruciating encounter even more difficult. The July 1 post received thousands of upvotes within hours of going live, quickly emerging on the front page of the r/EldenRing subreddit, thus indicating that many other veteran players are in agreement with the plea.

Unlike Cerulean and Crimson flask charges from the base game, Scadutree Blessings can only be upgraded through meticulous exploration. That's primarily because there is not a single excess Scadutree Fragment to be found in the Land of Shadow, so getting to SB level 20 requires finding all 50 upgrade materials that FromSoftware scattered throughout the DLC map.

Aside from upgrading Scadutree Blessings, players looking to overcome Shadow of the Erdtree with multiplayer are also advised to just focus on staying alive as Hosts of Fingers. While there's currently no shortage of Elden Ring players who have learned many Shadow of the Erdtree bosses to the point of being able to solo them, no amount of skill and knowledge will help hosts who don't help themselves by refraining from Leeroy Jenkins tactics.
