Elden Ring has countless secret areas tucked away in the most hidden corners of the Lands Between, but some of Elden Ring's secret areas are hidden practically in plain sight. While players will likely find a number of these secret areas on their own, some are hinted at by notes sold by Merchants that guide them toward a notable out-of-the-way spot.

Sellia Hideaway is one of these areas, revealed to the player in a note sold by a merchant. As part of Sorceress Sellen's questline, players are sent to find Master Lusat, who can be found in the dungeon's lower levels. Getting into the Sellia Hideaway is easy, but getting through the seal blocking the deeper areas of the caves is a bit more of a task.

Updated May 1, 2023 by Erik Petrovich: Finding the Sellia Hideaway location is not nearly as bad as figuring out the solution to the Sealbreaker Seal found in its depths. The real secret of Sellia Hideaway isn't just that its entrance is a hop, skip, and jump away from the Church of the Plague, its secret is that one of the most powerful sorcerers of all time dwells below. Sellia Hideaway is important to the game for a few reasons, but this sorcerer is crucial to the progression of one of the game's most popular quests. Luckily, the solution to the seal breaker Sellia Hideaway seal is rewarded earlier in this quest.

Sellia Hideaway Location

Sellia Hideaway map in Elden Ring

Sellia Hideaway is located above Sellia, Town of Sorcery. In the north corner of the town is a Site of Lost Grace, the Sellia Backstreets. From the north entrance, you can head practically straight forward to find this corner. From the south entrance, you will need to traverse nearly the entire town of Sellia.

Head to this Lost Grace, then go up the winding path just beyond the room to reach the top of the cliff that looms over Sellia. There should be a graveyard to the left as the path flattens atop the cliff - head into the graveyard and go North past the undead that spawn. What looks like a regular cliff wall behind a large grave marker is actually an illusory wall. Like other illusory walls in Elden Ring, strike or roll into the cliffside behind the gravestone to make it disappear and reveal a hidden tunnel.

How To Open The Sellia Hideaway Sealed Door

Deep inside the Sellia Hideaway dungeon is a sealed door, not unlike the seal found outside the Academy of Raya Lucaria. When interacted with, the seal reads that it can only be broken by a seal breaker Sellia Hideaway doesn't reveal the location of. To open the Sellia Hideaway seal, players must progress through Sorceress Sellen's questline. Players meet Sellen for the first time in the Waypoint Ruins, just east of Lake Agheel.

Players are eventually tasked by Sellen to track down the Primeval sorcerers Azur and Lusat, who made discoveries that altered their physical form. Players come across the Sorcerer Azur first, just north of Mt. Gelmir's Hermit Village. Beyond a group of sorcerers and a Demi-Human Queen is a sort of bridge that takes players further up Mt. Gelmir towards Volcano Manor. Just to the left of this bridge, though, Sorcerer Azur sits motionless, almost blending in with the rocks behind him.

Interact with this NPC, then return to Sellen to receive the Sellian Seal Breaker, which will open the Sellia Hideaway seal. Just beyond the seal is the other master sorcerer who Sellen wanted the Tarnished to track down: Master Lusat.

What Happens When the Sellia Hideaway Seal is Broken?

Once the seal has been broken by Sorcerer Sellen's Sellian Sealbreaker – a bit of a tongue-twister, to be sure – players meet whatever remains of Master Lusat. His head resembles an Astel's eye more than a human, and upon interacting with the Master, players learn the Founding Rain of Stars sorcery. This isn't a particularly powerful sorcery, but it is a) one of the legendary sorceries needed for the achievement, and b) one of the prettiest spells in Elden Ring.

Once players have "talked" to Lusat, return to Sorceress Sellen to continue her questline. It's got one of the most interesting endings to any Elden Ring questline, so definitely stick around and follow her directions afterward.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
