An unfortunate Elden Ring player recently snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after being taken out by a Royal Revenant’s brutal combo attack. Death is an all-too-common occurrence for Elden Ring players, as FromSoftware’s trademark difficulty is on full display in its award-winning action RPG. While Elden Ring’s open-world format allows players to level up their custom-made Tarnished before taking on a more dangerous foe like Malenia, Blade of Miquella, anyone who has played through Dark Souls should expect the quest to become the Elden Lord to be a long and punishing one.

Even the lowest of Elden Ring enemies can be lethal to an untrained Tarnished, and the internet is filled with stories and videos of players succumbing in a variety of amusing ways. Some of these deaths occur due to bad luck on the player’s part, with one unfortunate Tarnished losing out on 120k runes thanks to a killing blow that sent them falling to their doom off a ledge. Another had their quest cut short by a giant Caelid dog that clipped through a wall. Yet another unlucky Elden Ring player fell victim to a glitch that struck them dead in the middle of a battle against a Fire Giant.

Reddit user Jaggoon recently joined the ever-growing list of Elden Ring players to die in a sudden and bizarre manner, as shown in a clip they shared on r/EldenRing. This brief gameplay video starts with their Tarnished gaining the upper hand against a beastly Royal Revenant by striking it with a blow that reduces its health to a mere fragment. However, the gruesome arachnid quickly turns the tables with a devastating combo attack that obliterates Jaggoon with a flurry of strikes. Before long, Jaggoon is met with Elden Ring’s infamous “You Died” text as the Royal Revenant spits out some poisonous bile in celebration.

Elden Ring’s intense difficulty is one of the many aspects that has kept players coming back to FromSoftware’s latest hit for the past year - and leading to it winning Game of the Year at multiple video game awards shows like The Game Awards 2022. Fans will soon get to experience even more of Elden Ring thanks to the impending Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

In the meantime, players are still discovering new ways to expire in Elden Ring, as evidenced by the many clips and compilations that have continued to make the rounds online. Jaggoon’s doomed encounter with a Royal Revenant is yet another tale of a Tarnished falling in battle, and proof that in Elden Ring, a fight is never truly over until the monster’s destroyed entirely.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
