A new Elden Ring video considers how Ranni's Two Fingers are distinct from other versions of the monstrous entity. The story of Ranni, an Empyrean that willingly sacrificed her body and placed her spirit into a living doll, is one of tragedy and horror. It's very appropriate for Elden Ring, naturally. But Ranni's Two Fingers tie into the lore of Elden Ring in a way that's particularly intriguing. Suitably, there are several theories regarding the Two Fingers and whether they hide deeper secrets regarding Ranni and Elden Ring's story.

The Two Fingers in Elden Ring are monstrous entities that act as liasons with the Greater Will, a godlike power from outer space that maintains the power of the Golden Order of the Erdtree. The Two Fingers are located on most of the Divine Towers, plus there are Two Fingers for each of the Empyreans, individuals like Ranni that are candidates to be risen to become a god. Except Ranni's Two Fingers are strange, large, and shaped oddly.

The video from FromSoftware dataminer and lore analyst Zullie the Witch takes a deeper look at Ranni's Two Fingers. She pulls the dead monster from the ground and asks whether there's more to it than meets the eye. The first fan theory she answers is whether Ranni's Two Fingers are actually Three Fingers, which unfortunately doesn't appear true. There's no evidence of a third finger in the model, though there is a weird "knuckle" of sorts at its base that's otherwise only explained as a fold from the hand crumpling on itself.

Ranni's Two Fingers are strange in more ways than just the odd "knuckle," though. As noted, they are humongous compared to other Two Fingers. That may be because they are an Empyrean Two Fingers, or it could be related to Ranni specifically. They also have no hair on them, which may or may not be notable.

Zullie says that there's nothing else in Elden Ring that could help solve the mystery of Ranni's Two Fingers. She mentions that if FromSoftware releases DLC offering a look at another Empyrean Two Fingers, it could provide some exciting answers, but FromSoftware has so many options for DLC that it could focus on a number of topics.

The Two Fingers in Elden Ring are ultimately going to be a subject that players will never have the full story on. That's not uncommon in FromSoftware games, unfortunately. Its worlds are huge, compelling, and not at all complete, but by intention and due to the nature of game development. That's both frustrating and part of what makes Elden Ring great.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
