One talented fan of Elden Ring decided to inject a huge dose of feline ferocity into FromSoftware’s hit action-RPG, creating a clever fan edit that sees Antonio Banderas’ Puss in Boots gallivanting through the Lands Between. The same skilled YouTuber has produced other creative crossovers between gaming and pop culture in the past, including a hilarious mashup video that placed bumbling Dunder Mifflin manager Michael Scott from The Office in Mass Effect.
With its gorgeous graphics, tough-but-fair combat, and vast open world to explore, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring took the gaming world by storm when it was released in early 2022. The recipient of numerous Game of the Year awards, Elden Ring built on the formula established with previous FromSoftware titles like Bloodborne and the Dark Souls franchise and delivered a game that appealed not only to the developer’s most hardcore fans, but also to a wider gaming audience. FromSoftware has provided numerous updates to Elden Ring since its release that have fixed bugs in the popular action-RPG as well as added new features like ray tracing to the game.
Blending the dark and dreary world of the Lands Between with the comedic stylings of DreamWorks Animation’s famous feline, a new video edit by YouTuber eli_handle_b.wav brings Puss in Boots face-to-face with some of Elden Ring’s deadliest enemies. The clip begins with Puss in Boots narrating a glowing introduction for himself as he sets out on horseback across the Lands Between. The adorable adventurer quickly finds himself squaring off against Margit the Fell Omen, deftly deflecting the Demigod’s attacks with his miniature rapier. Though he holds his own throughout the fight, Puss is eventually knocked into a wall and out of the arena.
Not content with only battling one boss, the clip goes on to show Puss in Boots defeating Elden Ring’s Fire Giant with ease before setting off once more and finally settling down to celebrate with an awkward bit of self-grooming. Like in their previous video edits, eli_handle_b.wav deftly blends footage from the film into the world of the game using a mix of quick cuts and clever camera angles. The end result is an epic and cinematic mash-up that left many commenters replying to the video crying out for a full-length crossover between the properties. Summing up the awe many viewers surely felt when seeing the clip, one reply noted that “It’s rare to see a pro at the peak of their work who is still improving with every new release.”
This impressive fan edit is a fantastic example of the countless creative ways that gamers have found to pay tribute to some of their favorite franchises. And while it’s unlikely that FromSoftware will add the ability for players to take on the evils of the Lands Between as the adorable Puss in Boots in Elden Ring any time soon, at least this clip gives players a hilarious glimpse of what would happen if the two popular properties ever crossed paths.
