Communication is always a bit hard in online FromSoftware experiences, Elden Ring included. Unless you have Voice Chat, the games just don't give players anything more than Gestures and items that help communicate non-verbally. There is one set of items that can be used to talk to other players, in a way, called Prattling Pates.

Prattling Pates are items that can be used to say specific phrases, which change with every Pate available in the game. In Elden Ring, there are a handful of these Pates, but the first one players come across is "Hello", which conjures a deep, breathy voice to greet other players from your hand.

Prattling Pates and Online Communication

Prattling Pates are one of the few ways for player characters to talk, even though it isn't technically the character talking when one is used. When a player equips and uses one of these items, they hold it up to their mouth, appear to breathe through the stone, and a voice rings out to all nearby that says the phrase associated with that Pate.

There are a few Prattling Pates that actually have a use- the "Please Help" one, for example, can be used to alert nearby co-op partners that you are in danger. To equip a Prattling Pate, either slot it into your quick select bar or your pouch for ease of use. You can also use it from the inventory to leave room in these spaces for items you plan to use more regularly.

Where To Find The Hello Prattling Pate

Elden Ring Prattling Pate Hello Guide Stormfoot Catacombs

Prattling Pate: Hello can be found in Limgrave, specifically the Stormfoot Catacombs. From the Church of Elleh bonfire right at the start of the game, head northwest to the base of the cliffs of the Stormhills. Look around for the entrance to the Catacombs, which should be close to the edge that drops down to the beach.

Inside the Stormfoot Catacombs are a number of pillars shooting flame, which aren't too hard to avoid if you duck into cover on time. Head towards the first flame trap, and duck into the right to avoid being burned. Wait for the fire to stop, then continue towards the trap and go behind it. Prattling Pate: Hello should be on a corpse behind this pillar.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
