Spoilers for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree ahead

It's safe to say that hardship and Elden Ring went hand-in-hand in most fans' minds even before the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, though that's not to say the expansion didn't have a few surprises of its own. Much like previous DLCs from developer FromSoftware, Shadow of the Erdtree raised the bar when it came to difficulty and was capable of pushing even the most hardcore Soulslike fans to their limits. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki specifically stated that Shadow of the Erdtree was intended to challenge veterans of Elden Ring, and some bosses were additionally designed to test the mettle of those who had cleared most if not all of the base game's content.

Recjawjind's all-hit run is impressive even by Elden Ring's standards, and their durability build is a testament to what players can get away with so long as they have the right stats and strategy. With that said, this isn't the only crazy build to emerge after the DLC's release. For instance, other players have discovered a way to turn Shadow of the Erdtree's Lightning Perfume Bottle into one of the most dangerous weapons in the game.

While many fans have likely discovered their preferred method to tackle the dangers in the Land of Shadows, there are also still users who are struggling with Shadow of the Erdtree. A good chunk of the player base has criticized the DLC for its brutal difficulty, and some have even gone so far as to flood its Steam page with negative reviews in the days following its debut. However, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree still sold over five million units within the first three days of its release, so there are likely just as many if not more fans who are thrilled with its punishing mechanics.
