FromSoftware’s epic action RPG Elden Ring is replete with enemy variety. From terrifying mobile iron maidens armed with guillotines to horrific polydactylous hands which seem to have crawled from every player’s darkest nightmares, there’s no telling what could lie in wait just around a corner or on the other end of a fog gate in Elden Ring. Of course, no two mobs are created equal, and the game's community has taken issue with some of the game’s most unbalanced abominations.

In a thread created by premiumchap2 on the Elden Ring subreddit, fans are discussing the foes with whom they struggled the most. The post features a picture of the spider hands most commonly associated with Elden Ring's Liurnia’s Caria Manor, and they are certainly burdensome due in no small part to their disturbing nature. However, as pointed out by PartTimeBear, the Bloodflame Incantation—or even something as simple as a flame pot—can stun them and claim a significant amount of their health, making them much more manageable.

However, the prevailing sentiment seems to be that the Giant Crows found in Caelid, the Mountaintops of the Giants, and the secretive Mohgwyn’s Palace location found beneath Elden Ring’s Limgrave are the absolute worst of the worst. According to big_breakfast, they’ve got an outrageous aggro range and an illogical and excruciatingly frustrating moveset that’s difficult to memorize and even tougher to dodge. What’s worse, the ones found in Mohgwyn’s Palace even have a fake stagger that can easily bait unfamiliar players.

Another popular response mentioned the now-infamous bleed-inflicting dogs. While the normal variant is annoying enough, these dogs are capable of dealing absurd, arguably broken amounts of damage. Sometimes capable of nearly one-shotting even late-game builds, these dogs are formidable for all the wrong reasons, and they betray the once-wholesome community meme of calling every animal in Elden Ring a dog.

The Prawn Warriors, most often found in caves and other subterranean areas, are also deserving of a mention. Capable of launching volleys of tracking missiles from their backs, they can inflict incredible amounts of damage from a great distance, and the only method of escape would be an exceptionally well-timed doge. Taking on one of these things at a time is painful enough, but taking them on in packs—something that those following Ranni the Witch’s full questline must do—is borderline impossible. According to itsmrhealyourgirl, their ranged accuracy is on par with Luke Skywalker’s one-in-a-million shot that destroyed the Death Star, and, when fought in tight spaces, it can be downright infuriating.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
