The boss of Elden Ring’s Lyndell, Royal Capital legacy dungeon, Morgott waits at the base of the Erdtree, acting as a last defense against those who seek to challenge the Golden Order. While difficult, players may find this boss encounter to be a bit more approachable, as many of Morgott’s moves have been recycled from a previous encounter. In fact, Morgott is the true name of Stormveil Castle’s introductory boss Margit, and, as demonstrated in a viral Reddit clip, he’s every bit as devious and frustrating to fight as he was in the game’s opening hours.

Elden Ring’s open-world design makes it a uniquely approachable From Software title, and many soulsborne newcomers reveled in the fact that they could take the game at their own pace rather than sacrificing dozens of lives in a battle of attrition waged against a seemingly-insurmountable boss. Margit, however, proved to be every bit the roadblock baddies such as the Bell Gargoyles or Iudex Gundyr were in previous games. His late-game second encounter, however, is even tougher, and, as proven by u/Zyphker, he’s still more than capable of punishing an unwise Flask of Crimson Tears sip and lunging in from offscreen to obliterate his overconfident opponents.

The most crucial difference between the fights against Margit and Margott stems from the fact that the latter encounter introduces arena-spanning AOE moves and a skewering, outrageously punishing grab attack that sees the player impaled upon Margott’s sword. It was this move that ultimately doomed u/Zyphker, as, with just a sliver of health remaining, they opted to take a desperate swig from their flask, leaving themselves open for a fatal blow. It was certainly a more glorious death than the heartbreaking one suffered by another unfortunate Elden Ring player during the Margit fight, but, with the boss ostensibly at zero HP, the loss must have been a tough pill to swallow.

While Margit and Morgott represent major barriers to progression, most players likely wouldn’t list them among the game’s most tedious or infuriating. With one Elden Ring player enduring over one hundred loses to the Godskin Noble in Volcano Manor and another grinding out seven grueling hours against Limgrave’s Tree Sentinel, the difficulty of some bosses is, in a way, up to the player.

With that in mind, u/Zyphker has plenty of options should they wish to avoid another crushing defeat at the hands of Morgott. With dozens of weapons to choose from, approaches to take, and the option to completely respec their character should it come to that, there’s no reason to stick with a scuffed strategy. Still, with five flasks left, u/Zyphker would easily have emerged victorious were it not for a brief misstep.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
