Despite launching over two months ago, players are still managing to discover a litany of new things about Elden Ring. Given the massive size of the in-game map, the multitude of enemies and bosses for players to encounter, as well as plenty of weapons and armor sets to find, Elden Ring has a large amount of content for players to experience. Recently, one player has recently made an impressive calculation in terms of acquiring runes.
In addition to the long list of hostile enemies, Elden Ring is also home to numerous non-violent creatures. From birds to sheep that know how to combat dodge, these creatures won't attack players on-site and are meant more as set decorations. However, players can not only kill these creatures but gain runes by doing so. The amount of runes that players acquire is quite small, but one player actually calculated how many of these creatures it would take to hit max level in Elden Ring.
Hitting Elden Ring's Max Level By Killing Boars
Over on Reddit, a user named BlackIronSaturn made a staggering calculation that shows just how many wild boars the player would have to kill in order to reach the max level in Elden Ring. The exact number of runes needed to hit max level is nearly 1.7 billion. The player receives five runes each time they kill a boar, and therefore, the exact number of boars the player would need to kill is 338,511,683.
While grossly impractical to do, it would be significantly less intense for players to farm runes by killing nothing but boars. Although considering the low amount of runes the player receives for killing non-violent wildlife, it actually incentivizes them to go kill harder enemies like Morgott the Omen King or Godrick the Grafted, since the player receives a ton of runes as opposed to only five.
It's amazing to see how the Elden Ring community has managed to thrive since it was first released. Compared to previous FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring is the highest selling game ever released by FromSoftware. It makes sense, considering how Elden Ring is comparatively more accessible as far as FromSoftware games go.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Elden Ring going forward. While FromSoftware hasn't confirmed any DLC for Elden Ring, given the open-ended nature of the game progression, it does leave the door open for potential opportunities. Elden Ring features extremely rich lore that could easily be added onto at some point in time.
