Some NPC questlines in Elden Ring start out of nowhere without players really realizing, like finding Roderika in the Stormhill Shack outside Stormveil. Others, though, are out of the way and can't be started until players reach a specific point and do specific actions, like uncovering Blaidd in Mistwood.
Kenneth Haight's questline in Elden Ring is of the latter, though he isn't as hard to track down as some NPCs. In southern Mistwood players will run across a specter that hints at Kenneth's return to the nearby Fort Haight, prompting them to explore the forest and find out where this mysterious fellow went. As it turns out, he fled about as far as he could and needs help to get back.
Kenneth Haight, Lord Of Fort Haight, Recently Lost Fort Haight
Kenneth Haight is a much more interesting character than it might first appear. He seems like a pompous noble who can't decide whether to take or refuse the help of the Tarnished, but it goes a lot deeper than that. In a way, Kenneth Haight is one of the most important characters in all Limgrave – he's apparently the only noble who was able to establish relations and lasting peace with the Demi-Humans.
However, a Knight Commander showed up from Stormveil Castle to take Fort Haight from Kenneth. He succeeded and Kenneth fled north, where he tasks players with taking back his keep. After the Knight Commander has been killed, he turns against Godrick and says a new leader for Limgrave must be chosen - perhaps he, perhaps someone more fitting for rule.
Where To Find Kenneth Haight's First Location
Kenneth Haight is found north of the Mistwood in eastern Limgrave. From the Third Church of Marika Site of Lost Grace head southwest along the road until you reach a slope downwards into an area filled with rubble and a Troll. Avoid the distant Troll while riding around the ruins until you hear a voice calling out for help.
Follow the sound of the voice and climb upwards to eventually find Kenneth Haight overlooking the area on top of a crumbling wall. From the Gatefront Site of Lost Grace, head east along the road until you cross a bridge and come to a fork. Take the path leading north, the left road, and continue until you reach the same area from the other side.
