One of the most beautiful areas in Elden Ring is the massive Liurnia of the Lakes section located north of Limgrave, and one of the greatest hidden gems in Liurnia is the small town of Jarburg where the NPC named Jar Bairn can be found.

In contrast to many of the frightening creatures that can be found in The Lands Between, Jar Bairn is positively adorable, and speaking to them can be a welcome rest to the evil lobsters and sorcerers that populate Liurnia. To complete this quest, the Tarnished will need to complete the questlines of Diallos and Iron Fist Alexander. So, to save time, the Tarnished will ideally need to be doing these quests at the same time.

Reach Jarburg

Jarburg Map Location And Entering The Town

Jar Bairn is located in the small village of Jarburg, which is a place that can be very easily overlooked because there is no simple way to reach it. The closest Site of Grace to Jarburg is the Artist's shack near the Carian Study Hall. From here, the Tarnished can jump down the nearest cliff using stone platforms that will be right above Jarburg.

  • When first arriving in Jarburg, the Tarnished should rest at the site of grace at the top of the village; this will save a lot of time as this quest requires the player to reload the area multiple times. As a warning, killing any of the jars in the village will impede players from progressing through the quest.
  • Jar Bairn will be located on top of some steps leading to one of the houses right next to the Jarburg Site of Grace.
  • After exhausting the dialogue of Jar Bairn, reload the area and exhaust all the dialogue until they ask you to pick some flowers. There will be several flowers scattered around Jarburg and you can pick up as many as you like.

Speak to Jar Bairn After Starting Alexander's Quest

The next part of Jar Bairn's quest involves the Tarnished starting Alexander Iron Fist's quest; he can be found north of the Agheel Lake North Site of Grace in Stormhill. Once the Tarnished has spoken to him, they can travel back to Jarburg and continue to speak to Jar Bairn until they have exhausted all the new dialogue (this will be when they speak about poachers).

Speak to Diallos in Jarburg

Progressing to the next part in Jar Bairn's quest will come in the mid-late game because it will require the Tarnished to reach Volcano Manor on the Altus Plateau. In the Volcano Manor, the player needs to progress Diallos's questline until he leaves the manor. Alternatively, Diallos will also leave the manor after Praetor Rykard has been defeated.

After doing this, he will relocate to Jarburg where he can be spoken to in one of the houses a short distance from where Jar Bairn is. The player can then speak to both NPCs until they have exhausted their dialogue.

Return to Jarburg After Reaching The Mountaintop of Giants

Diallos Lying Down Mortally Wounded

The final phase of Jar Bairn's quest will initiate once the player has reached one of the final areas of the game: The Mountaintop of Giants. After reaching this area, the Tarnished can return to Jarburg where they will find many of the wholesome Jars smashed.

  • Here the Tarnished can speak to both Diallos and Jar Bairn, and they will learn that the poachers that Jar Bairn spoke of came to Jarburg, where Diallos fought them off, but in the process became mortally wounded.
  • When speaking to Diallos, the Tarnished will have the opportunity to reassure him that he protected the Jars as a final act of goodwill before he dies.
  • There is also the opportunity to get Diallos's Mask and Hoslow's Petal Whip upon reloading the area, although this is optional and is not required to complete Jar Bairn's quest.
  • Reloading the area will allow the player to speak to Jar Bairn next to Diallos's corpse, where they will be trying to absorb Diallos's power. Here, the Tarnished must speak to them until they have exhausted all their dialogue.

Give Iron Fist Alexander's Insides to Jar Bairn

Speaking To Jar Bairn And Iron Fist Alexander

This final step requires the Tarnished to finish Iron Fist Alexander's quest, which can be accomplished in Crumbling Farum Azula. Once the player has done this, they can return one final time to Jarburg, where they can speak to Jar Bairn.

Jar Bairn will happily accept his uncle's Insides and will say that they are headed out on a journey to follow in Alexander's footsteps to become a warrior and hopefully a champion. Unfortunately, they also say that once they leave Jarburg, players likely won't see them again because a warrior's path is one they have to take by themselves.

As expected, once you reload the area for the final time using the Site of Grace, Jar Bairn will be gone, and in his place will be an item called Companion Jar, a Talisman that can be equipped to increase the damage to all thrown pots. Once the Tarnished has picked up this item, the quest will be complete.

Elden Ring is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
