A determined Elden Ring invader found a way to interrupt an unfortunate host's battle with Malenia, Blade of Miquella and tip the scales in the boss' favor. Invasions have long been part and parcel of developer FromSoftware's beloved soulslike multiplayer formula, with roots dating all the way back to the original Demon's Souls for the PlayStation 3. Since then, it has become one of the genre's hallmarks, and Elden Ring is no exception to the rule, much to the possible dismay of one unlucky player.

Elden Ring's many bosses have garnered a notorious reputation for their difficulty among the gaming community, and many of them are rightfully feared and respected for their prowess. However, some are revered above others, and of them all, Malenia is arguably the most iconic. Not only is the Blade of Miquella capable of obliterating an unprepared player's health bar with her high damage attacks, but her two-stage boss fight, lifesteal mechanic, and infamous Waterfowl Dance cemented her status as the ultimate test of an Elden Ring player's skill. By most metrics, Malenia is already a worthy opponent all on her own.

Content in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC can only be accessed after defeating two bosses in the base game.

One player, however, decided to lend the Blade of Miquella a helping hand. Reddit user Incine_Akechi shared a video of his invasion to the r/Eldenring subreddit, which captured his entry into the world of a host during Malenia's boss fight. While invaders typically cannot interfere in a boss fight due to the fog wall over the entrance, Incine_Akechi subverted this by climbing to a higher area overlooking Malenia's arena, whereafter they then began bombarding the host with the Cannon of Haima spell. Caught between Malenia and the invader, the unfortunate host eventually fell after one of Incine_Akechi's spells scored a direct hit.

Elden Ring Invader Teams Up With Malenia

Many fans were amused by the humorous tag team, with several users applauding Incine_Akechi's clever subversion of typical invasion tactics. Other commenters additionally wondered if the host might find the clip online and share their perspective of the fight. However, Incine_Akechi responded and revealed they had messaged the host after the invasion and asked the same question, with the player claiming they, unfortunately, did not capture the moment themselves. Despite their defeat, the host reportedly remained resolute and stated they would keep trying to defeat Malenia for now.

With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion just on the horizon, Elden Ring is seeing a steady resurgence as players return to the Lands Between to prepare for the title's first and only DLC. Additionally, a day one patch is scheduled for June 20, which promises five new hairstyles for the Tarnished along with a variety of bug fixes, balance changes, and new features.
