Highlights

  • Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has walls that lack collision and may lead players to their demise, causing frustration among those searching for illusory walls.
  • Those that have found themselves falling through illusory walls tend to find deceitful "hidden path ahead" messages in front of them, causing them to wonder if these broken walls are intentional trolls added by FromSoftware or legitimate bugs.
  • Given how they look, though, they are likely not intentional. If they are a bug, FromSoftware will likely fix the problem in the near future through an update.

Elden Ring fans have been hitting several walls in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in hopes of finding hidden paths, but some of them are making players fall through the floor and killing them instantly. Illusory walls have been a staple of the Soulsborne genre and Elden Ring features plenty of those too, but this seems to be an unprecedented occurrence for the community.

Elden Ring is filled with secret paths, items, enemies, and whatnot, and the community has done a stellar job of uncovering them all over the past couple of years. With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players are curious to know what secrets the game has in store for them, and quite a few of them have been discovered already. For instance, the Shadow Keep area has a couple of secret paths players have found, but it is quite likely that there are several more hidden throughout the game. However, finding them is not going to be an easy task.

Elden Ring Players Are Encouraging Each Other to Break the Community's Unwritten Rules

Elden Ring players are now encouraging each other to break the game's 'unwritten rules' that some players impose on themselves.

As highlighted in a new post by Reddit user PrivateNickel, all the illusory walls in Elden Ring might not be as rewarding as one would expect them to be. The video showcases the player reading one of the many misleading messages in the Scorpion River Catacombs region of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which suggests that there is a hidden wall ahead. However, upon rolling into the wall to reveal the hidden path, they end up falling through the floor which kills them instantly. While the message might be quite deceptive, one Redditor jokingly adds that the message was technically correct, despite the user not getting the outcome they'd have expected.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC's Illusory Walls Sparks The Iconic "Bug Or Feature" Debate

Notably, this is not the only instance of such a wall being present in the game, as players have reported that there are several such misleading hidden paths in Elden Ring's Shadow of Erdtree DLC. So far, there is ambiguity around whether these are meant to be an intentional troll on FromSoftware's part or if they are being caused by a bug instead. In fact, the original poster categorizes it as the latter, claiming that some of the walls lack collision in the game.

Considering how polished FromSoftware games usually are, it is possible that this isn't a bug. That being said, the DLC is huge, so there's also a chance FromSoftware simply slipped up with a few of its walls. If the fake walls are in fact an error on the developer's part, they will likely be addressed in a future patch. Considering that fans have been concerned with other aspects of the game such as the difficulty and the lack of good loot in Elden Ring's Shadow of Erdtree DLC, this is hardly one of the most pressing issues for the community for now.
