The ancient dragons are some of the most important creatures in the world of Elden Ring, and their lore answers many questions players may have.

Elden Ring: Ancient Dragon Lansseax Location

Elden Ring Lansseax first location

Lansseax is the first ancient dragon players will likely encounter in Elden Ring. To face Ancient Dragon Lansseax, players need to reach Altus Plateau. The meeting with her is unexpected, catching everyone off guard without any warning. This majestic creature descends upon players traveling between Abandoned Coffin and Erdtree-Grazing Hill site of grace, creating a breathtaking but surprising encounter. However, this initial encounter is not her final battleground.

When Lansseax loses some of her health, she makes an escape by vanishing into the sky. This is not the only dragon smart enough to run away, as Glintstone Dragon Adula does the same during the fight against her at the Three Sisters in Liurnia.

Elden Ring Lansseax second location

For a rematch, head to the Rampartside Path site of grace outside the western wall of Leyndell. Reach this grace site by starting at the Outer Wall Battleground site of grace, exiting through the giant northern gate, and then head southwest to discover the path leading to the Rampartside Path site of grace. Proceed a short distance to the west, then turn south and climb a small hill, where Lansseax will descend once again for a rematch.

It's worth noting that fighting Lansseax in the first location is optional, but those who take on the extra challenge will find her with slightly lowered health in the second encounter.

How to Beat Ancient Dragon Lansseax

Being a descendent of ancient dragons, Lansseax’s strength is nothing to be taken lightly of. Like all ancient dragons, Lansseax holds mastery of the majestic reddish lightning akin to their kind. To counter her lightning attacks, players can equip the Boltdrake Talisman or use Lightning Fortification incantation to mitigate some of the damage. Be cautious, as her attacks can easily one shot players who haven’t invested points in Vigor or are simply underleveled for the fight.

Lansseax's thick scales make her highly resistant to all elements, especially lightning, and most types of attacks, except pierce damage. Despite being an ancient dragon, she is not immune to effects like Bleed and Scarlet Rot. Melee builds can use thrusting weapons with Bleed buildup to swiftly reduce Lansseax's health. Targeting her head deals extra damage and breaks her stance faster, but this may be challenging due to the sloped fight arena. For Bleed builds, consistently attacking her legs to build up blood loss is an effective strategy to defeat the boss.

Handling Lansseax becomes much simpler for mage and caster builds, thanks to their array of long-range attack options. Consider using the powerful sorceries like Rock Sling and Spiral Shard against the Ancient Dragon Lansseax. Rock Sling inflicts immense stance damage, while Spiral Shard can penetrate Lansseax's massive size, dealing damage multiple times. Target her head and launch Rock Sling or Spiral Shard from a safe distance to easily overcome this boss.

For caster builds, hurling Black Flame targeted at her head is a solid option, as it deals percentage-based damage. If Lansseax gets too close, players can quickly retreat using Torrent. Once she loses interest, return and resume the attack. Repeat this strategy until her health reaches zero for a smooth win.

Upon defeating the Ancient Dragon Lansseax, players receive Lansseax's Glaive incantation. This unique move unleashes a sweeping attack of red lightning, followed by an AOE lightning wave. Lansseax's Glaive proves valuable when facing multiple enemies in both PVE and PVP scenarios. However, it comes with a long casting time and has a high stat requirement of 40 Faith. For this reason, players with characters built around the Faith stat can make the best use of Lansseax’s Glaive.
