Elden Ring offers a rich assortment of sorcery classes, catering to Tarnished adventurers keen on embracing the path of the mage. While many players typically associate mages with classic glintstone sorceries, FromSoft’s imaginative minds have crafted a diverse array of options, particularly appealing to those inclined towards Intelligence builds. Whether you seek to use fiery Magma sorcery or frostbite your foes with Cold sorceries, Elden Ring presents a plethora of spell options to explore.

Nevertheless, there’s one problem with most sorceries in Elden Ring - they are quite easy to dodge. NPC enemies, especially humanoids, can evade sorceries by simply sidestepping incoming spells. However, this isn’t true for the Night sorceries, the best spell class for stealth builds. Night sorceries have silent attacks and can’t be dodged, making them a perfect option for fights against enemies with shields or fast movements. Like most sorceries, Night sorceries also get their signature staff called the Staff of Loss .

The Staff of Loss boosts all Night sorceries by 30%, making it a must-have arsenal for Night mage builds. The best part is that the Staff of Loss can be found quite easily and early. Here’s how you can find the Staff of Loss in Elden Ring.

With so many weapons of choice in Elden Ring, finding the perfect one is crucial. What are some of the best staffs to pick from?

Elden Ring: Staff of Loss Location

The Staff of Loss is found on a corpse on a balcony in the northern part of Sellia, Town of Sorcery in Caelid. Players don’t need to fight any boss or powerful enemy to reach Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Even though Caelid is supposed to be a mid-game area in Elden Ring, players can get here early by using the teleporter trap chest in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. Follow along to learn about the fastest route to the Staff of Loss.

First, go to the Dragon-Burnt Ruins located east of The First Step site of grace in Limgrave. At the center of these ruins, there’s a staircase leading to a room containing a trap chest. Upon opening this chest, players will find themselves trapped inside the Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. Players who have entered the Sellia Crystal Tunnel for the first time might have trouble escaping the Kindreds of Rot found here.

To leave the Sellia Crystal Tunnel, leave the shack you were teleported to and take the path going down on the east or west side to find a grace site and the exit. While sprinting to the exit is a viable option, newcomers are advised to adopt a cautious approach, opting to crouch and stealthily navigate past the miners to avoid drawing the attention of the Kindreds of Rot.

Once you're out of the Sellia Crystal Tunnel, head southeast to find Sellia, the Town of Sorcery. Use the Sellia Under-Stair grace site and start exploring the town. Go up the stairs and you'll spot a golden tree with a single golden seed. Be careful, as there are invisible mages lurking around. The golden tree stands before a large entrance initially sealed by a puzzle. Players can easily identify this location by the presence of a blue wall.

South of this golden seed, you can find a giant branch reaching out to a building with a ladder and another with two balconies. Ride Torrent and use his jump ability on the branch to reach the roof of the building with two balconies. In one of the balconies, players will find the Staff of Loss lying on a corpse.

Is the Staff of Loss good?

Elden Ring Staff of Loss

Elden Ring boasts a diverse array of 18 different types of staffs tailored for sorcery builds. Many of these staffs feature passive damage-boosting effects specifically designed for certain sorcery classes. Among these, the Staff of Loss stands out as an exceptional choice for builds focused on Night sorceries, such as Night Comet and Night Shard. Setting it apart from others like the Meteorite Staff, the Staff of Loss uniquely offers a substantial 30% boost to a sorcery class. Furthermore, it is upgradable and requires Smithing Stones, rendering it a valuable asset even in late-game scenarios. By wielding two Staffs of Loss simultaneously, players can enjoy a formidable 60% damage increase to their Night sorceries.

Nevertheless, Night sorceries are a small school of sorcery and have only a few offensive spells. The Staff of Loss is worth getting if you are planning to use the Night Comet or Night Shard spell. You only need to have the Staff of Loss in your hand to get the damage bonus. Using a staff with higher sorcery scaling, like Lusat’s Glintstone Staff or Carian Regal Scepter to cast the spells while holding the Staff of Loss in the other hand is a deadly combo in Elden Ring.

However, enthusiasts of Night sorceries may find disappointment in discovering that the bonus effect of the Staff of Loss does not extend to spells like Ambush Shard and Night Maiden’s Mist, despite their damage-dealing capabilities. As for spells like Unseen Blade, Unseen Form, and Eternal Darkness, which do not inflict damage, the buff from the Staff of Loss proves futile.
