Some players prefer to take on Elden Ring's slew of enemies and bosses with weapons featuring a little more reach and AOE than the traditional sword or dagger. Those that are looking for a fairly versatile early-game Dexterity and Strength weapon can try out the Scythe, a slender weapon with great reach and solid area damage thanks to its skill and sweeping strikes.

The Scythe can be grabbed fairly easily for those that know where to go but it is quite the journey from Elden Ring's "starting zone." Players looking to take the long journey to grab the weapon can use the following guide to make the trek to the Cliffbottom Catacombs.

Where To Find The Scythe In Elden Ring

Elden Ring Scythe Map

The Scythe is located within the Cliffbottom Catacombs in the Liurnia of the Lakes region of Elden Ring. This expansive area is north of Stormveil Castle and the region of Limgrave. The easiest way to get there is to travel from the Lake-Facing Cliffs Site of Grace just north of the encounter with Godrick the Grafted. From there, players can travel Northeast to another Site of Grace called Liurnia Highway South. The Cliffbottom Catacombs are Northeast of this Site of Grace, directly East of the Purified Ruins.

Once players make their way into the Cliffbottom Catacombs, they'll find a Site of Grace and a long and foreboding staircase that leads down to a lever and elevator. Players should be careful using this elevator as there are no walls to keep them from falling off as it moves downward. Once at the bottom, players will need to continue through the corridors until they come to a large room with a staircase descending downward and a statue in the distance. The Scythe is located in the room directly behind the statue but players will need to go the long way around to reach it.

Entering the corridor at the bottom of the stairs and continuing to follow the path will put players in a room with a staircase. To reach the Scythe, they'll need to head up the stairs and to the right, enter another corridor, and continue through the rooms until they end up near the statue they saw at the start. In the room nearby are a group of Imps that will quickly overwhelm the player if they aren't careful and on the body lying near the center of the room is the Scythe.

What Does The Scythe Do?

The Scythe is a Dexterity and Strength weapon with quite a long reach and a lot of AOE potential thanks to its sweeping swings and fast circular strikes. It's capable of stacking Blood Loss onto enemies, which will result in a burst of damage when enough stacks are reached. It requires 14 Strength and 14 Dexterity to wield and also comes equipped with the weapon skill, Spinning Slash. The skill costs 6 FP to use and can be used again in immediate succession to "lengthen" the number of attacks. It will allow players to perform a spinning slash attack with solid AOE coverage that can do solid damage when used correctly.

Overall, the Scythe is a solid Dexterity weapon for players looking for something with a longer reach and AOE capability. It's available pretty early for players that are willing to run to its location and, thankfully, isn't locked behind a boss or enemy. It's entirely possible to snag the Scythe simply by running past everything, making it a great early game weapon.
