There are tons of exciting weapons to unlock in Elden Ring and some of them are a bit more eccentric than others. Take, for example, the Jar Cannon. This massive mortar is capable of launching a huge projectile at enemies and what it lacks in speed it more than makes up for in raw power. Past all the logistics of it, it's just plain fun to use. But getting the Jar Cannon can be a bit difficult for some players.

Where exactly is the Jar Cannon found, and what are players going to have to go through in order to nab it? Although it's entirely possible to grab it "early on" in terms of location, it's locked behind a pretty powerful boss (especially for new Tarnished). Here's how Elden Ring fans can get their hands on the Jar Cannon and start blasting cannon-ball-sized holes in their foes.

Where To Find The Jar Cannon

Elden Ring Volcano Cave

Players that want the Jar Cannon for themselves will need to make the long and arduous trek to the Volcano Cave, north of Mt. Gelmir. The sprawling mountain is located far north of Elden Ring's starting area in a place, past even the Atlas Plateau. There are two main ways to access the zone, with the first being through the Atlas Plateau itself. This route is long and arduous, as it involves first getting to the Plateau itself, which requires piecing together the Dectus Medallion and riding the Grand Lift of Dectus up from Liurnia of the Lakes.

The second path will require players to access a special area in Raya Lucaria and die to a Virgin Abductor. Players that start out at the Church of the Cuckoo Site of Grace and head outside the door at the end of the hallway will find themselves in the graveyard of Raya Lucaria. Following the linear path forward will eventually bring them to a massive "elevator" in which a wheel moves stone platforms on a conveyor belt of sorts. Hopping onto one of the platforms and successfully riding all the way up, over, and down the other side of the elevator will put players in a large open area filled with crystals.

There is a Virgin Abductor lying in wait in this area and allowing it to grab players and pull them into its Iron Maiden (and kill them successfully) will cause players to respawn in the basement of Volcano Manor. It's possible to make way through the manor and exit into Mt. Gelmir from this area, but players should be aware that they'll have to tangle with two pretty powerful bosses. A twin set of Virgin Abductors (one with wheeled blades and one with guillotine-style) block progression from the basement back into the rest of the Manor.

Finding Volcano Cave & Defeating Demi-Human Queen Margot

After players make their way to Mt. Gelmir, they'll need to head all the way North and find the Volcano Cave near the summit. This inconspicuous area is tucked into the mountainside near a cliff edge and surrounded by Demi-Humans. Once players make their way into the Volcano Cave, they'll find a Site of Grace to activate and some rather dark corridors to navigate. Its recommended that players use a torch but the cave itself is pretty small and it's fairly easy to navigate to the boss room. Players can choose to eliminate all of the Demi-Humans inside or simply run to the boss room and begin the encounter with Demi-Human Queen Margot.

Elden Ring Demi Human Queen Margot

Demi-Human Queen Margot is a fairly straightforward boss fight. She's fast, has a leap attack, and can cover ground pretty quickly. Players will simply want to keep their distance on the Demi-Human until they can figure out her attack patterns, telegraphs, and "rotation." All-in-all she's not nearly as difficult as some of the other bosses found throughout Elden Ring, or within Mt. Gelmir itself.

After players have successfully defeated Demi-Queen Margot, they'll receive the Jar Cannon.

What Does The Jar Cannon Do?

Elden Ring Jar Cannon Shot

The Jar Cannon is a massive, and heavy, ballista-type ranged weapon that shoots Great Bolts at enemies. Players can blast massive damage into foes from a considerable range but it's important to note that the Jar Cannon takes quite a while to reload. It's not recommended that players try to engage enemies or bosses that are particularly fast with this weapon as it can be difficult to land shots on them consecutively. The Jar Cannon is also extremely heavy, weighing 15.0. Those without a lot of Endurance or a high equip allotment will have a hard time equipping the Jar Cannon with anything other than light and medium armors.

The Jar Cannon can dish out some serious damage, but it takes quite a bit of strength just to wield it correctly. Players will need to have 34 in Strength and 12 in Dex just to heft the mighty range weapon and use it effectively. Those that can correctly balance the immense weight of the Jar Cannon and its slow reload speed will find one of the best ranged weapons in the game in terms of damage output.
