Even though gestures are not an integral part of Elden Ring, players looking to collect everything the game has to offer will get to Extreme Repentance at some point. Being an incredibly well-hidden item, Extreme Repentance is a gesture of plea for mercy and recognition of one's mistake. Of course, falling to your knees in front of the enemy is not something you want to do in any game situation, but the desire to collect every gesture will make many players go looking for it.

In fact, getting an Extreme Repentance gesture is as easy as falling to your knees in the heat of battle. But this can become impossible if you don’t know when and whom to ask for forgiveness.

Where To Find Extreme Repentance Gesture in Elden Ring

Elden Ring map

To get an Extreme Repentance gesture in Elden Ring, you must fight the NPC Patches and ask him for mercy. Fans of From Software games have long been familiar with Patches and know him as a recurring character who plays a different role in each game. As for Elden Ring, in this game, he is a good merchant or the easiest boss with a so-so reward.

Before you move on to obtaining Extreme Repentance, you should find this NPC. Therefore, here are two locations where you can get the desired gesture:

  • You can first encounter Patches in the depths of Murkwater Cave northeast of the Birdseye Telescope in the Limgrave region. To enter the cave, you will have to defeat Bloody Finger Nerijus. Otherwise, the passage will be closed by a magical wall. However, after entering the cave, go straight to the first Site of Grace and reach a room with bandits. After this, turn sharply into the tunnel to the right and go to a large room with a chest. Once you open the chest, Patches will spawn and attack you.
  • If you didn't kill Patches as the boss, you can also find this NPC on Scenic Isle in Liurnia of the Lakes. At this point, he won't attack you and will be nothing more than a merchant, but a couple of sword blows to his head will change his view of you.

Having met Patches in the first location and started the battle with him, we strongly do not recommend killing him. The rewards for his death are disproportionately bad compared to what his living version offers. When his health drops below half, he will hide under the shield and ask for mercy. Stop attacking, and after a few seconds, you will receive two Golden Runes. Also, the NPC will turn into a merchant.

After this, you can get an Extreme Repentance gesture in both locations. You only need to approach Patches and deal a few blows with your sword, after which he will become aggressive again. Let him reduce your health to a minimum, then use the Grovel For Mercy gesture. Whether Patches spares you or not, you will receive Extreme Repentance. And don't worry, the next time you return to him, he will be a friendly guy again.
