In the journey through the Lands Between, players might learn about various lost realms mentioned in weapon and item descriptions. One such region is the Lands of Reed, home to valiant samurais, including one of the starter Elden Ring classes. Lands of Reed is a region themed around the feudal era of Japan, and unsurprisingly, enemies from there are found wielding katanas.

Just like in FromSoft’s Dark Souls series, katanas are tremendously strong in Elden Ring. Those keen on constructing a Samurai build risk overlooking an exceptional spear originating from the Lands of Reed - the Cross-Naginata . This particular weapon stands out as one of the rare spears with innate Bloodloss build-up that can be further enhanced by applying Ash of Wars, utilizing Blood affinity, or casting the Bloodflame spell. Additionally, the Cross-Naginata boasts an impressive range, enabling players to safely inflict Hemorrhage build-up through poke attacks. Here’s a guide on obtaining the Cross-Naginata in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring: Cross-Naginata Location Guide

To collect the Cross-Naginata spear, players will have to venture into the Gael Tunnel located just near the entrance of Caelid. However, don’t let its location worry you. The Cross-Naginata is resting on a corpse next to a giant Land Octopus in the Gael Tunnel. You don't have to confront the boss in the Gael Tunnel for this weapon, but opting to do so will reward you with the Moonveil Katana, an excellent choice for Intelligence builds.

Players who haven’t been to Caelid yet might not know how to find the Gael Tunnel. This cave is located next to Limgrave, so players can just ride their way to the Gael Tunnel and claim the weapon without having to fight any enemies.

First, players will have to get to the Rotview Balcony site of grace in Caelid. Found just east of the Smoldering Church, where players first encounter Anastasia, Tarnished-Eater, you can get here by jumping up the spirit springs north of the Third Church of Marika or following the path east from the Summonwater Village.

Elden Ring Gael Tunnel location

Starting from Rotview Balcony, head south toward the cliff overlooking East Limgrave. The entrance to the Gael Tunnel is guarded by a small camp of Radahn Soldiers. If you've already unlocked the map for Caelid, the entrance will be marked by a small red icon south of Rotview Balcony.

After entering the Gael Tunnel, players will have to face two Radahn soldiers. One can be backstabbed and thrown off the cliff. Players can choose to fight them or run and jump to the ledge on the left side. Continue going down by using ledges to reach the bottom and activate the Gael Tunnel site of grace.

From the Gael Tunnel site of grace, head north to find a tunnel going west. Two Radahn soldiers will be looking toward the tunnel, which is infested by a group of Land Octopuses. Inside this tunnel, a giant Land Octopus guards the corpse with the Cross-Naginata. Simply run past the octopus, grab the Cross-Naginata, and exit the area swiftly. Due to its size, the giant Land Octopus won't be able to pursue you.

Cross-Naginata stats requirement and build

The Cross-Naginata comes with split scaling between Strength and Dexterity. To wield this weapon, players will need 16 Strength and 20 Dexterity. After upgrading the Cross-Naginata to its maximum level, it receives a B scaling in Dexterity and a D in Strength. Players can always use whetblades to experiment with weapon scaling and infusions.

For talismans, players can utilize Lord of Blood’s Exultation to gain an attack boost when the Cross-Naginata triggers blood loss. When using the weapon’s skill, Warrior Jar Shard or Alexander Jar Shard can be equipped to increase skill damage. The Cross-Naginata’s bleed build-up can be further enhanced by using Ashes of War that hit multiple times, such as Spinning Slash, Spinning Strikes, and Blood Tax. With these skills, players may also consider using talismans like Rotten Winged Sword Insignia and Millicent’s Prosthesis to boost consecutive strike damage.
