Elden Ring offers plenty of unique Ashes of War to add to your weapons, enhancing them further by adding new weapon skills and changing their affinities. There are all kinds of Ashes of War available for different weapon types. If you are interested in hitting your opponents from long range, then Storm Blade and Giant’s Roar are great picks. For closing gaps and melee fights, Ashes of War like Stormcaller, Impaling Thrust, and Giant Hunt are excellent choices.

Similar to Impaling Thrust and Piercing Fang, Giant Hunt stands out as one of the strongest Ashes of War in Elden Ring. As suggested by its name, this weapon skill is designed to hunt large enemies like trolls and giants. When using Ash of War: Giant Hunt , your character crouches and performs an upward thrust attack, which can launch small and human-sized enemies into the sky.

Elden Ring: Giant Hunt Location Guide

Elden Ring - East Raya Lucaria Gate

To obtain Ash of War: Giant Hunt, players must defeat the Night's Cavalry roaming the streets northeast of East Raya Lucaria Gate in Liurnia. Like all Night's Cavalries, this boss spawns only at night. First, fast travel to the East Raya Lucaria Gate site of grace, then head northeast to find the Night’s Cavalry boss. Alternatively, if you have unlocked the site of grace in Bellum Church, you can head straight south from there to find the Night’s Cavalry boss.

Defeat the Night’s Cavalry boss to obtain Ash of War: Giant Hunt and 5,600 runes. If you are having trouble against the Night’s Cavalry, you can use long-range Glintstone spells or cast the Rotten Breath or Ekzykes's Decay incantation to inflict the enemy with Scarlet Rot, which will slowly sap its HP. Players confident in their melee skills can use piercing weapons like spears and thrusting swords against the Night’s Cavalry, as it is weak to pierce damage.

Elden Ring - Ash of War Giant Hunt

Ash of War: Giant Hunt is one of the strongest weapon skills in Elden Ring. Whether you are in a PVE or PVP fight, Giant Hunt can always deal a respectable amount of damage to your enemies. The Giant Hunt skill can be applied to the following weapons in Elden Ring, as long as they don’t have a unique Ash of War:

  • Greatswords
  • Colossal Swords
  • Twinblades
  • Heavy Thrusting Swords
  • Spears
  • Great Spears
  • Halberds

When applied to heavy weapons like Colossal Swords and Great Spears, Giant Hunt deals an impressive poise damage of 36, while lighter weapons like Spears and Twinblades deal only 30 poise damage. This much poise damage can knockback most enemies, and can break a large enemy's stance in two or three hits.

By default, Giant Hunt applies Quality affinity to a weapon, providing equally split scaling in Strength and Dexterity. Instead of Quality affinity, you can also choose other affinities as long as you have the necessary whetblades.
