Elden Ring has a wide variety of weapons, ranging from classic greatswords and katanas to fast claws, whips, and more. Like in Souls games, some weapons come with innate status build-ups, which easily make them top-tier weapons. Almost all of Elden Ring’s best weapons have some type of status build-up. For instance, Rivers of Blood’s skill rapidly induces Blood Loss, while the Moonlight Greatsword excels in high Frost build-up, and so forth.

Even in cases where a weapon lacks inherent status build-up, players can utilize whetblades to add various Ash of Wars, introducing status effects such as Blood Loss, Poison, and Frost. It's important to note that this process is exclusive to weapons without unique skills. Although players can acquire a variety of status build-ups through whetblades, there exists one exclusive to only a handful of weapons — Scarlet Rot. Most weapons afflicted with Scarlet Rot are discovered later in the game, with the Antspur Rapier being a notable exception.

Elden Ring: Antspur Rapier Location

Elden Ring - Where to find Antspur Rapier

The Antspur Rapier is a thrusting sword with a Scarlet Rot build-up of 50. To obtain this weapon, players must travel to the Shaded Castle, located far north in Altus Plateau, and defeat an NPC enemy named Maleigh Marais. Upon reaching Shaded Castle, head west until you encounter a Stone Golem lying on the ground. As the Stone Golem awakens, Maleigh Marais will also spawn and initiate an attack. Defeating him will reward you with the Antspur Rapier and the Marais armor set. However, achieving this is easier said than done. Here’s a detailed walkthrough on how to find the Antspur Rapier location.

First of all, players need to collect the left and right Dectus medallions to access the Grand Lift of Dectus and reach the Altus Plateau. Each half of the Dectus medallion is found in a chest in Fort Haight, located south of East Limgrave, and Fort Faroth, situated south of the Minor Erdtree in Dragonbarrow. After obtaining both medallions, head to the Grand Lift of Dectus by following the path going north from East Raya Lucaria Gate. Take the lift to enter the Altus Plateau.

Upon leaving the Grand Lift of Dectus, go a little north to find the Altus Plateau site of grace. From here, the path to Shaded Castle is straightforward. Descend down the hill to the north and continue heading through the valley in this direction. Be cautious of the giant crab and trolls hiding here! Use Torrent to breeze through this area and reach Shaded Castle, standing on a pool of greenish poisonous water, making it hard to miss.

Players can choose to activate the Shaded Castle Ramparts site of grace or head directly west to find the Giant Golem in an area with broken statues. While heading west, players will need to run past a group of Miranda flowers. Avoid standing near them, as the giant flower can launch powerful projectile attacks. Continue heading west until you come across the Giant Golem. Approach to activate the golem’s core, which also causes Maleigh Marais to spawn.

Players shouldn't have much trouble defeating Maleigh Marais, as he will also get hit by the Giant Golem’s attacks. If he proves to be troublesome, players can use heavy weapons to stagger him repeatedly. Like all NPC enemies, Maleigh Marais is not the smartest. Players can also cause him to fall to his death by sticking close to the cliffside on the north. Defeat Maleigh Marais by any means to claim the Antspur Rapier.

Is Antspur Rapier a Good Weapon?

Elden Ring - Antspur Rapier in hand

The Antspur Rapier is a Dexterity weapon with a slight scaling from Strength as well. Players will need 20 Dexterity and 10 Strength to wield it. At the max level of 25, the Antspur Rapier gets a C scaling in Dexterity and a D scaling in Strength. However, upgrading the weapon isn’t really necessary, as its real strength lies in its quick moveset combined with status build-up.

The Scarlet Rot build-up already makes the Antspur Rapier a great weapon. Almost all enemies in Elden Ring can be afflicted with Scarlet Rot. As a thrusting sword, players can apply Scarlet Rot quickly. This effect gradually erodes the target’s health on a percentage basis every few seconds.

What makes the Antspur Rapier really special is that it can have other status build-ups as well. Players can apply Ashes of War like Poisonous Mist, Chilling Mist, and Poison Moth Flight to the Antspur Rapier and select Bleed, Poison, or Cold affinity to get multiple statuses from a single weapon.

If players manage to get their hands on an extra Antspur Rapier, either by going into New Game+ or from a friend, they can power stance two of these thrusting swords and create a quad-status build-up. These builds may not prove to be great in PVE gameplay, but they are perfect for annoying and building pressure on enemies in PVP. In the end, nobody wants to see four status build-up bars on their screens.
