The world of Elden Ring is massive and mysterious, with a touch of danger sprawling all over The Lands Between. FromSoftware really outdid themselves with this game by releasing vast regions, hundreds of variety weapons, countless unique spells, and, most importantly, tons of boss fights. With so much content, the only downside players will face is finding all of them. It seems like Elden Ring always has something new to offer, whether it’s a hidden region like the Haligtree, an underrated weapon like St. Trina’s Torch, or a secret boss like the Ancestor Spirit.

Many players may not know that the Regal Ancestor Spirit, one of the seventeen remembrance bosses, has a lesser boss variant called Ancestor Spirit . As many players focus on defeating mostly the remembrance bosses, Ancestor Spirit goes under the radar easily. In this guide, players can find out how to get to the Ancestor Spirit boss fight and defeat it in Elden Ring.

FromSoftware has an excellent reputation when it comes to lore. Here are the bosses with the best lore in Elden Ring, ranked.

Elden Ring: Ancestor Spirit Boss Location

The Ancestor Spirit boss is located in the Siofra River, hidden underneath Limgrave and Caelid. To enter this buried region, players will have to head south from the Third Church of Marika to find the lift to Siofra River. After going down the lift, head north to find another lift and reach the Siofra River Bank site of grace.

Elden Ring Ancestor Spirit Obelisk locations

After reaching Siofra River Bank, players can finally start the preparation to unlock the Ancestor Spirit boss fight. In the Siofra River, there are eight obelisks scattered all around the region. Players will have to light up a fire in front of each obelisk to unlock the fight.

The first obelisk is located just a little east of the Siofra River Bank site of grace. After activating it, now go northwest to find the second obelisk guarded by a group of ancestral followers. Be careful of the giant crab on the way! After activating these two obelisks, teleport back to the Siofra River Bank grace site.

Now, climb on Torrent and start rushing towards the east direction. On the far east cliff of Siofra River, players will discover the third obelisk.

Light up the flame and then go just a little north to find the fourth obelisk. Be mindful of the couple of lightning wisps hovering around the obelisk. Circling around them while riding Torrent is a simple way to dodge their attacks.

After a few rounds, the lightning wisps will despawn to let you light up the flame safely. After activating the fourth obelisk, go north to find the Worshippers' Woods site of grace.

From Worshipper’s Woods, go west to find the fifth obelisk and activate it.

Then, head to the lone island on the south to find the sixth obelisk. But, be careful of all the lightning wisps in this area. Their lightning attacks are quite deadly here as players are standing on the water, causing them to have lower lightning resistance.

After activating the sixth obelisk, teleport to Worshipper’s Woods. The last two obelisks are located north of Worshipper’s Woods. Players can find the seventh obelisk on the path just ahead of Worshipper’s Woods, and the eighth obelisk is on the edge of a cliff located left of the previous obelisk. On activating the eighth obelisk, players will receive a pop-up message saying, “Power gathers somewhere in horned remains.”

Now, return to the Siofra River Bank site of grace and go southeast to find a hallway with the carcass of a giant deer. Interact with it to get teleported to the boss arena and begin the fight with the Ancestor Spirit.

How to Defeat Ancestor Spirit

Ancestor Spirit fight - second image

Ancestor Spirit is one of the first few bosses players might encounter in their journey through the Lands Between. Luckily, this boss isn’t extremely tough, unlike some other Elden Ring enemies who have made their names into the list of the most difficult bosses of all time.

The battle with Ancestor Spirit takes place in one of the game's larger arenas. Evading its attacks is possible by simply running or rolling away. Just keep in mind, it takes a bit of practice to get used to the boss's moves. The Ancestor Spirit's attacks may seem slow, which might make you mistime your rolls at first. But here's the upside: if you're new to Soulsborne games, this boss is a great way to learn. It teaches you how important it is to read your enemy's moves and react the right way.

The Ancestor Spirit is vulnerable to various attacks and elements. While it doesn't resist Magic attacks much, it does take extra damage from Slash, Fire, and Holy attacks. If using a melee build, try using skills like Sacred Blade or Flame of the Redmanes Skill on weapons for Holy or Fire damage. Because of its tall legs, hitting the Ancestor Spirit’s body can be tricky. Instead, aim for its legs and strike there to deal damage. Watch out for its kicks and slams!

Ancestor Spirit Fight - first

For mage builds, facing the Ancestor Spirit is a breeze. Spamming Rock Sling is one of the easiest ways to defeat this boss. Because it lacks physical damage negation and Rock Sling deals high stance damage, players can cast this spell from a safe distance and stagger the boss quickly. If the Ancestor Spirit charges towards you, simply run away – the large arena provides plenty of space to avoid every attack.

Once the Ancestor Spirit is put to rest, players will be awarded with Ancestral Follower Ashes . This is a decent ash summon to have in the early game. Ancestral Followers are tanky enemies with both melee and ranged options.
